Ok the car is no cayman in steering. If i want a race car i buy a porsche.

The 135i is fun you can get grocerys at the store next day you go to track day and have fun. Next day it s rainy and you see a nice corner think hmm i attack that one. you can bring you kids to school with it. It s a nice sporty alrounder. It is a bit on the heavy side. But hey you can t have it all.

2009 maybe lighter versions we will see for now the 135i is great.

You nailed it. That's exactly what the car is.

Like stated in this article it's very good all-rounder, it just doesn't handle or steer like the thoroughbred sports cars Z4, TT and Boxster.
I frankly haven't seen anyone in this board make this car out to be "perfect playful car crafted by God", but may be I missed it. If anything, all I have seen is people taking pot shots at this car for its "high" price - with out stating what they consider to be correct pricing and why. Like you said, it is a good all rounder at what I consider is a reasonable price and more importantly with out any peers from the other German/European manufacturers.

ps. I won't be surprised it is faster than the Cayman/Z4/TT/350Z around a track. The 335 it self was just a 1 sec of Cayman S around the ring. Yup, it will never offer Porsche handling, but what is new about that.

Who would have thought the day would come when magazines would compare a 1 SERIES to a Porsche.... crazy!

It is a very capable car no doubt. But sometimes the time it takes you to get from A to B gets overshadowed by the way another cars makes you feel and the joy you experience on journey. That's why the "underpowered" Cayman S has been at the top of almost all comparisons. It was also quite criticized for being overpriced when it was introduced but the auto journalists shut their mouths about it the minute they got behind the wheel of the car.

Like you said the 135i is quite a niche car with it's own specialty filling up an empty space between the 335i and Z4 3.0. Despite the differences it does have some similarities with the Cayman. They are both small and fairly light developed to offer something for those seeking a compact and road focused car. Most specially both have the potential to kick their older siblings off their throne.

Oh really? who have said this? I certainly haven't. I said its capable car and most bang for the buck from BMW, not that this is a porsche killer or anything like that.

AdvEvo liked the car and ordered one, that says a lot about the new Coupé!

I don't think anyone has said such a thing. No one has to. Naysayers often use this kind of rhetoric to allow themselves to pretend they are disappointed that the product did not meed expectations and thereby justify the general yammer. On the other hand it is very flattering for BMW that as soon as they say they have made a great car that is really fun to drive peolpe immediately put "Porsche" as the natural point of reference.

In my eyes the car seems to do what it is supposed to do.
