Interesting test, although I´m suprised that Audi won..Ok,they did find it more agile and sportier and thats ok cause Audis are know for their spory approach in this class.I see these limos as traveling machines rather than some perfomance sedans so overall comfort and design comes in first place(5 series excluded from this statement )..Interior of MB looks better and more sophisticated than Audis so my choice would be MB

Re: Autozeitung: Aud A6 2.8 FSI vs. Mercedes E280

So, here I go again. I hope, my translations are understandable...

Driving dynamics:

The handling of both cars facilitate safety and it also shows that safeness can be compared with "driving fun".

Especially the Audi is a pleasure to drive and he is fast in curves - although the engine is heavy and the front wheel drive). The steering is direct and smooth-running.
With deactivated ESP, the Audi has some problems with the traction, and then the Mercedes has room to play off his advantages.
The E 280 is fast and good-natured, but the Audi is still faster around the handling cours. The ESP of the Mercedes isn't that sensitive then the Audi ones and makes the E-Class more a cruiser.

The Audi also has the better brakes. The brakes of both cars are great to handle. Nevertheless the brakes of the Audi are in warm condition better, then the (also very good) brakes of the Mercedes.

running costs

It's extremely infrequent that the costs of two cars are that different. The price of the Mercedes is over 4000 € higher, then the starting price of the Audi.
For those, who want to resale their car, the Audi is also the better choice. The owner of an E 280 will loose more then 2000 € compared to the Audi owner (after 80000 km / 4 years).

Only the lower CO2 emission of the expensive Mercedes is better then the Audi ones. The A6 has lower running costs, otherwise.

Re: Autozeitung: Aud A6 2.8 FSI vs. Mercedes E280

Well I had a 5 hour drive in our E-Class last night. Left Bruchsal a little after 12:00 AM and arrived in Mühldorf a bit after 5:00 AM.

The E-Class is perfect for those long Autobahn journeys. I have not driven or ridden in the new A6 so I can't comment, but I had no problems with this car on the highway. It's very comfortable, the Xenon lights provide excellent vision and the engine response of the old 224-hp 3.2 V6 is still perfectly acceptable. The car was fully overloaded with luggage. The trunk was filled to the max and so were the rear seats. Even the front passenger seat was filled with luggage and stuff. At 1:00 AM etc., there's hardly anything on the Autobahns except slow trucks so the fast lane is empty. I was speeding home at intervals of 130 km/h (in 120 km/h zones) all the way to 210 km/h (yes I know, pretty dumb of me considering the car was mega overloaded) on the unlimited stretches. Average fuel economy was 8.8 L / 100 km when I arrived in Mühldorf. Now when I drove to Bruchsal on Tuesday, the E320 delivered 7.8 L / 100 km!!!! Even with Autobahn driving!

Yeah, these diesels will be better obviously if you drive normally and look ahead and adjust your driving style to the road conditions. Either way, the E-Class is still a superb car. All cars in this class are - except the Brilliance BS6.

When I change my place, I drove with our E-Class at an average of 100 km/h! I reached the best fuel consumption, we ever had with the E 280 CDI! I only need 6.0 litre / 100 km... ...but 7.8 / 8.8 litre for a 224 hp E 320 isn't bad, too!!

Christian, you already drove the new facelifted E-Class - to you had the chance to test the new "Intelligent Light"? I'm really interested in it's function, especially at the autobahn!!

Where did this Mercedes advertisement come from?

j/k

Both great cars but if I had to choose, I'd take the A6. I might be a bit bored with the E-Class interior.
