I agree with you on that.

Lexus can't compete against BMW or Mercedes in terms of prestige, so they have to dazzle their customers with technology, even if it is gimmicky or useless. It doesn't matter. Technology is always something that interests people and can lead to them thinking that the LS is the "class leader", which I think is happening in the US.

No doubt the LS is a great car, but I do get the impression that Lexus really focused more on stuffing too much technology in this car for the sake of good press releases. As I mentioned before, a car loaded with technology impresses people - even if it doesn't perform well in other areas.

I wouldn't count inferior handling against the LS. After all, it does probably focus more on comfort than even the Mercedes S-Class. The only difference seems to be that the Mercedes S-Class also handles and is just as comfortable, if not better in that department.

And that right there is what blows the LS out of the water. Even, even, even the pro-LS Consumer reports said that the S rides and handles better than the LS. They said that for the W221 vs the LS460 and about the W220 vs the previous LS430. This is what certain Lexus fans on Edmunds simply couldn't admit or comprehend. With the new S-Class proving to be reliable (so far, fingers crossed) all of the LS' traditional advantages have been eradicated. I've seen a LS460L sticker for 93K so even on price there isn't a huge difference anymore if you want a fully loaded LS460L vs a S550.
