If the parameters noted in the conclusion are important, of course the M3 wins... but then again that is not why you buy this kind of car and who in their right mind would chose the M3 over the GT3 if it was not their wallet (and their only car)?

No, the GT3 is for the CSL to handle (Price, ride, power, image).

Worth noticing: this M3 was not fitted with the optional r-tires. That option will do alot on the track time. For sure SA will test the car in an as fast configuration as possible, as always.

Just had to check; Swedish AMS has now officially left their days of BMW favourism behind them. They gave the BMW a three star rating in the category "Comfort" and the GT3 got four! The conclusion on this point for the GT3, however, states that this is, as always, compared to others in the same class. Something tells me that the German editorial staff and their Swedish counterpart does not share the same view on what cars are to be put in a certain class.

I think that is the point of the comparison- to compare a pure sports car with the M3.
The test is intended to present the M3 performance when compared to a very sporty car, and see how much the difference is.
Yes the M3 will lose, the question is how badly- and the answer is not bad, not as bad as I had expected it to(2.9 seconds deficit around the course).
To me that is the message I can draw from this comparison test.

I have too been having the feeling lately that AMS does not favour BMW at all. Before they might have turned a bit to easy towards Bayern - but not anymore...

I saw on their webpage that they are comparing the new M3 with the old M3. Have you read it?

Regarding this german test they should have tested the M3 with 19" and the drivers package then both the GT3 and M3 would have the same tires (michelin pilot sport CUP).

In short they are quite pleased with the new car, well a little more than pleased actually...

That would have been ideal, yes. I believe that many will order their car with de-restricted speed limiter and r-tires.

Interesting test, but I agree it's not very useful. Particularly so from the view of potential customers. It's also interesting how the points add up if you exclude ratings for space, functionality/practicality, traveling comfort, price, and cost of ownership: the M3 is still comfortably ahead. Which makes me think that dynamically the M3 is perhaps not so far below (very high) expectations that initial reports would make us believe?

This is also the 2nd test I've seen where the M3 is below its claimed weight (1615kg vs 1655; Autocar found 1625kg). I had been led to think the new M3 weighed more than the RS4...
