Let's put it this way. From that list, the only cars I wouldn't touch are the Lexus RX400h and the Volvo XC90. I like my SUV to have a degree of offroad capability and both of these fail here - badly.

I went for the X5 test drive in a prepared circuit a while back and I have o be honest the XC90 was the biggest surprise of them all: X5 4.8i, ML500, GX470 & XC 90.

Around the track, the Volvo was surprisingly better than the ML500(very soft suspension and too much body roll) which left me a bit disappointed.
The GX70 was what it was supposed to be- does a good job going in a straight line.
So I won't discount XC90- it is indeed a very nice well build SUV.

Like I said its no excuses why the X5 lost. I just mentioned a way how to improve the ride quality. I didnt say the X5 would win the comparison, I said it would help the ride. Big difference.

and those thanks you get for that first post, oh please. Dont mess with a moderator, you guys wont be forget, thats my advice for you thankers

Kudos to Audi , but i'd still go for BMW. Q7 is nice, very nice, but just too big and doesn't handle like X5.

Range Rover Sport or ML for me...

The Q7's too close to a large MPV in proportion and the X5 is the same old with some new gubbins.

The new ML is lovely and capable in ML 320 CDI + Off-road pack guise and the RR Sport is the class act in terms of looks and presence.

In this segment there will simply never be a clear cut winner. The criteria by which these SUV's are measured are so diverse and subjective that you'll never really get a meaningful result. Different publications and different testing teams put different weightings on the measured criteria.
