Re: EVO: RS4 vs M3 V8 (including C63 review)

Oh now, anyone who criticises the M3 CSL's interior clearly isn't speaking from experience. Those bucket seats are, in a word, amazing. Thrash a car at extreme cornering speed and the support and grip offered by those barebones seats becomes the new Luxury.

I've driven the CSL, I've been driven in the CSL and I damn well have my eye on a pristine example with only 3000 km on the clock for the equivalent of 60 000 Euros... I'm just not in a position to buy at present, sorry for me.

If you've driven the CSL and you've guided that lovely thick alcantara steering wheel, then you'll know what the car's about. It's a very special, exceedingly focussed driving implement and it's not for poseurs.

Hell the 2 cars don't even sound the same. I had the chance to drive the M3 CSL as well... but it was in a parking lot. I was only 19 at the time, so they didn't trust me, haha. Having said that, those seats are ridiculous. I'm not a big guy, but felt like the seat connected me directly to the chassis of the car.

The E46 CSL will be a classic. However, something tells me the CSL name will become a lot more commercial... not that it necessarily means it's a bad thing

The car on the pictures doesnt even have air condition so that adds to the bare appearance. The real life weight saving was about 100 kg since many opted for the air con.

Its a shame that the american market is not ready for this type of car yet, BMW was testing the waters with the last CSL and I think maybe this time the americans are ready! Last time the cars sold as crazy despite the silly price premium. In Sweden BMW charged 200 000 kr (about €22k) more for the CSL over the ordinary M3.

The same people that can live with the GT3 everyday can live with the CSL, no problem, just shove the kids in the back seat and go shoping. Bags goes in the spacious trunk! But as pointed out earlier, this is for the car enthusiast, not everyone.

Au contraire, I hope both Audi and Mercedes makes an attempt at this sort of car! Its never fun to play alone.

Where is the end of this constant bitching about M3? And now even CSL?

Some of you should really get a f'n life!

First it was too soft (E92)... now it's too hardcore (CSL). It doesn't end my friend

You got your facts wrong about E36 M3 CSL, only made 120 were made and they were made for homologation reasons and all of them were spoken for even before being built. BMW had no trouble selling the E30 M3 here in the US either and that was even more hard core than the CSL - it was also after all a homologation special unlike the CSL. How is emission cop out? it costs a lot of money to get EPA approval and CSL being a limited production, it never made financial sense.

you can say that again, particulary the americans should not criticize the car. They havent even sit inside a CSL let alone seen the car IRL.

M3 E46 CSL is an epic car and will be all over the historybook, its already a classic.

Any photos to share so I can see what we talking about?

EDIT: I google a little and found this:

"In the 1995 model year, BMW only produced 120 to 125 of these cars. Only 85 cars made it to the USA. It is only recently that enthusiasts have recognized these cars for what they're worth, and today they are in high demand and quite collectible. Rarely do you see one for sale."
