Re: The Alternatives: Quattroporte vs. XJ vs. LS vs. Flying Spur vs. Phaeton

I have to say, I really like the Phaeton. It definitely has style and if it just didn't have the VW badge on it, people wouldn't underrate it that much. In fact, it could even steal sales from it's big competitors the S-Clas, 7er and A8. So, my vote goes to the Phaeton.

It isn't a car you drive with 200km/h over the autobahn - at that speed the whole car becomes restively (the car we drove had no sport suspension). The engine isn't elastic at high speed as well.
The interior has (except for the plastic around the navigation module) very good build quality. The seats are very comfortable and have endless opportunities to adjust. The rearseats are also comfortable enough (heated rearseats are standard now) - my dad could seat really relaxed (he stand 1,96 m tall).
Overall it's a great car and I really enjoyed to drive it.
The Jag's using the ZF 6-speed isn't it? No wonder it was so good...

Thanks for the short review.

Re: The Alternatives: Quattroporte vs. XJ vs. LS vs. Flying Spur vs. Phaeton

It's interesting to see the Phaeton leading this poll... I assume that this means, if the three Germans didn't exist, people are likely to go for the Phaeton as a priority choice, at least will consider it very seriously. This makes me feel that if the VW wore say... A Bentley badge, it would do very well. But then again such a car sort of exists already in the form of the Flying Spur... Yet it's not well-received here.

Well let's wait for more votes. Thanks for the input everyone!

You are correct, the Phaeton would do well with a Bentley badge ...as it does.

But that is the big issue with the Phaeton as we have said numerous times before, the VW badge.

The stupid thing is, some people on this forum hate the Flying Spur because it is a VW ...and they wouldn't buy a Phaeton because it is a VW. Yet everyone seems to agree the Phaeton is a terrific vehicle.

My question is, what is so wrong with the VW badge?

I like VWs ...I don't care if Adolf Hitler was partly responsible for its foundation it is an iconic brand.
