Whether or not they can afford the sports package is irrelevent once you're shopping in this area, provided you can afford the basic car. The average S550 goes out the door for 90K as Feb of this year in the U.S. market. Anyone who can afford a 88K S550 can afford another 5-10 or in some cases 15K in options. No such thing as not being able to afford the AMG package with an S, CL or SL for that matter.
