I would go for an SUV/SAV that feels the most like a car. On top of that it has to be luxurious (all of them accomplish this) and somewhat comfortable. The Porsche should therefore be my favorite, but it is really pricey and it just doesn't look good to me. I'll take the X5 in Space Gray.
PS. No test ever ever mentions this, but I bet you if you switched out the Run-Flat tires, the X5 would be a hell of a lot more comfortable. Those tires for 19" and 20" rims must be insane. I've personally worked with 18" RFT's and I thought those were crazy. |
You hit the nail on the head.
Nobody that I know will take their premium SUV/SAV off road, that was and is what Jeeps and pickup trucks are for.
The SUV/SAV are most driven by women, and trust me, they don't go off road. The Porsche might be the exception here where I have seen more male than female drivers.
In the old days, yes SUV/Jeeps were for off road- remember the old Land Rovers, those had very good offroad capabilities whereas the Range Rovers were more on the sport side.
I think modern SUV/SAV has strayed heavily away from to the Offroad part of the equation.
Towing abilities are still called upon every now and then, however the Offroad thing is very very rare.
Perhaps BMW does have a point here; customers will rarely make use of the offroad abilities so why invest so much resources on it.
