Auto Motor und Sport: Audi A8 3.2 vs BMW 730i vs MB S350

Just bought my latest AMS. My scanner is "kaputt" so I can't scan the results. Here's the placing and opinions:

1) Mercedes-Benz S350: traditional class leading comfort mated with newfound handling qualities and impressive standard safety accessories, both of which contribute highly to the S-Classes win.

2) Audi A8 3.2: Cheap in price compared to the BMW and Benz, conservatively styled and the perfect choice for a sporty driver.

3) BMW 730i: Despite the recent facelift, the 730i ain't the youngest of the bunch. Despite the last place finishing, it narrowly looses out to the Audi.

The A8 3.2 was FWD BTW, not a Quattro version.

0-100 km/h Times

Audi A8 3.2 = 8.4 seconds

BMW 730i = 8.2 seconds

Mercedes S350 = 7.9 seconds

What Yannis highlighted says alot about the caliber of the A8. A testament to how Audi has established itself as a true competitor. Good stuff

Question...

Are Audi's equipped with Quattro All wheel drive, have more power going to the front wheels than the rear? In normal driving conditions that is. Am I not understanding this right... Correct me if I'm wrong please!

Normally quattro splits the torque to 50/50 ( front/rear) but the latest version which is used in RS4, S8 and Q7 is asymmetrical (or rear biased) and the distribution is 40/60 in order to reduce understeer and give the feeling of a RWD car while having the advantages of AWD.
Soon all Audis will use the new version of quattro (which uses Torsen C differential BTW).

Except for those with tranversely mounted engines I'm assuming. Aren't those still stuck with the Haldex setup?

Re: Auto Motor und Sport: Audi A8 3.2 vs BMW 730i vs MB S350

Audi models with transverse engine like TT and A3 use Haldex. Those are normally FWD but if a wheel starts to slip then part of the torque (up to 50% max) is transmited to the rear wheels.

Torsen C can be used along with transverse engine layout so it's quite possible that next TT with have Torsen based asymmetrical quattro.

The 3.2 version isn't. I was surprised to know too, because something as prominent as Quattro should be included as standard in every Audi flagship.
