My order is... 1) Audi, because if you look at ever model out of the three, Audi's materials look high end and meaningful. it's also the only 1 of the 3 that if your not sold on the exterior your more willing to put up with it for love of the interior! 2) BMW, even though I believe their the least comfortable, they still have and attractive interior layout. 3) The only reason Mercedes is last in my eyes is because for as visually appealing they are from the outside, once inside you they don't seem all that special! This isn't the case with the S, and CL but other than that I'd take damn near any of the Japanese manufactorers over Mercedes. I can't give Mercedes much credit for 2 lovely interiors and a bunch that are blaa... P.S This is coming from a Mercedes owner ![]() |

Luckily for me though, interior is not a main priority. I think exterior and performance comes first. | |

From a pure design point of view - BMW blew the barndoors open 5 years ago with the E65 7er's interior, and looks every bit as modern today as it did when it debuted. One can argue that it remains the conceptual superior to every other cabin in its class. Unfortunatly, the design agenda set out on the 7er doesn't play quite as well when budgets are constrained, so cars like the 5er have taken a bath of bad press. On the other hand, somtimes it just works, as is the case with the Z4. When I survey all the cars in a particular range, I have to give the edge to Audi. They haven't done as much to push the envelope as BMW has, but they have established a certain level of minimum competency, where if it's an Audi, you just know that, at bare minimum, it will be decent. However, it's very clear that BMW has taken notice and is addressing issues with their interiors, as evidenced by the 5er facelift and the new X5. If we check back in a couple year's time BMW may emerge as a cleaar leader in interiors. For now though, Audi takes the cake. I didn't even mention Mercedes interiors becuase I'm really neither here nor there on them. I wasn't impressed with the W221 S-Klasse, but it wasn't a poorly appointed cabin either. Guess I'm just not excited about Benz interior design for the moment... New C looks good though. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The best interior out of the 3 big Germans? I agree- BMW interiors from the 90s like the E46 interior for example were the best in my opinion. You felt as if you were sitting in a plane cockipit, with the dash curving towards you. Nowadays in BMW interiors you get dashboards that are almost completely vertical with a silly wedge shape cut out at the bottom (see pic) -there are no nice flowing curves. Yeh they BMW interiors are smart enough, but I miss the old interiors. I've noticed that the others have this vertical dash design now as well- most notably in the new C-class. Before Mercedes had a nice swooping design, but it seems like they are following the vertical design! So for me, I think it would have to be Audi.
