Re: The best interior out of the 3 big Germans?

I personally think Audi's concept car interiors are really fantastic ....but I am consistently disappointed with the production versions. But the Audi interiors fit together nicely and are the most homogeneous in terms of aesthetics.

Mercedes has some nice details, but I find the overall impression is just dull, unimaginative, and utterly mainstream.

BMW is the most adventurous but sometimes the cabin architecture feels a bit 'injection-molded' -- lots of plastic and not much of a feeling of craftsmanship -- then, maybe that is intentional.

Re: The best interior out of the 3 big Germans?

Audi has interiors that are rock solid and they'll probably last forever. Or at least, that's the perception one gets... Still, it is without a doubt that Audi uses the best materials for its interiors, right from the A3 all the way to the A8. No cheapening whatsoever. However, Audi interiors are also generally pretty dull looking and conservative.

Mercedes has produced great interiors of late, as we've seen in the CL and the S... Still, I can't say that they appeal to me very much, they are still quite old-fashioned and so very Mercedes.

BMW has the youthful, striking appeal but doesn't quite hit it in the quality department - like Rob says, I don't get the feeling of crasftsmanship.

Audi for me.

Re: The best interior out of the 3 big Germans?

I was in Geneva last year and I sat in both S65 and S8. I remember there were somethings that left me unimpressed, some parts felt cheap and plastic in S65. The S8 was better wellbuilt and felt more solid and all this for half price of a S65.

Designwise I probably put MB on last place, boring interior and I have never understood the hype here on GCZ about Benz interiors. The interior in new C-class is a disaster, I dont like the layout , also too busy for me.

BMWs interiors look more clean and fresh. I can understand if people find the interiors dull but for me a interior dont need a lot of buttons or a busy design to look good. Sometimes less is more
BTW there is a cure if you want a well-built interior from BMW, just visit BMW Individual section but of course its going to cost you extra.

That's a tad harsh JM. The interior is actually very clean, crisp and modern without reverting to a "me too" approach. It's distinctly Mercedes Benz and many people can appreciate that...

Re: The best interior out of the 3 big Germans?

Well,I drive an E30 318i and i have to say that even now it could teach some carmakers out there how to make good looking interior(quality and design combined)..I was little confused when BMW started with new philosophy of design("flame surface design",right??).I first moments I didn´t liked it at all..But now that is completly changed wiht new X5 and 5-er..I just love the simlicity in interior design and quality finish..And that is why I respect BMW interiors little more than Audi and MB.So,if I had to do ranking,it would go something like this:1.BMW,2.Audi and 3.MB.

so I should just adjust what many people appreciate, nah I dont think so. Harsh or not, I dont like the interior in C-class and especially not when its blackversion, it looks nicer in light interior though.
This looks better

I agree, BMW probablly has the best design, in most models at least. But I would say combined, Audi for me not MB, MB interiors just don't do anything for me, except perhaps the CL. IMO

Re: The best interior out of the 3 big Germans?

Honestly....I'll take MB overall. MB's interiors are homogenous without looking the same throughout the whole lineup. Plus, MB interiors are a little more warm and inviting than the other two. Ever since I've driven the new S and sat in the CL, the interior has really impressed me. The fit and finish was better than even the A8 and the A6 I've driven. All of this is of course my own opinion.

Verdict:

1. MB
2. AUDI (win over the BMW by just the slightest of margins)
3. BMW
