Re: New 2007 Infiniti G35 - first official pics

I agree w/ the sentiment that this looks more like a facelift and not an all new model. The overall proportions look off and very unbalanced, part of me really likes the car, the other half detests it. Visually this "new" G35 looks very bolbous, especially the roof, which I'm really not a fan of. I know the car is going to do well and be an especially good performer w/ the drivetrain and depth of engineering Infiini has put into it's F/M platform. When it comes time to "show me the money", the 3er is still tops. You almost get bored w/ that idea.

Yes..on both counts.
This is from today's (4/13/006) New York Times....

Is It Real? Yes, this production car goes on sale in November as a 2007 model.

What's the Point? The 2002 G35 sport sedan gave BMW, whose 3 Series has long been the benchmark sport sedan, its first real fright – and it gave Infiniti the distinctive hit it had sought for years. The redesigned model aims to extend that successful run.

The Company Line: “Our goal is to be best in class in dynamic performance, said Jack Collins, vice president for product planning at Nissan North America. “And yes, that means beating the BMW 3 Series.”

How's It Look? The exterior redesign is conservative to a fault. But Infiniti lavished obvious effort inside: the original’s wobbly plastics and sickly orange gauges are gone, replaced by a more shapely design, richer materials and tighter construction.

All New Infiniti G35 Sedan Revealed

Infiniti, the global luxury brand of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced the release of the all-new Infiniti G35 sedan at the Seoul Trade Exhibition and Convention Center (SETEC) located in Hagnyeoul, Seoul. Korea is the first market to receive the redesigned luxury sedan.

The all-new Infiniti G35 sedan for the Korean market will be powered by the newly upgraded fourth generation V6 VQ35HR engine generating 315-horsepower and 36.5 kg/m torque. The V6 engine is the only engine in the world to have made Ward’s 10-best engines list for the past 12 consecutive years. The vehicle is available with a five-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode and Downshift Rev Matching, giving a smooth yet dynamic driving experience with optimal shift timing. It also features a driver-oriented, rear-wheel drive platform.

The Infiniti G35 sedan is available in a “premium” and “sports” version. The “premium” model features an aluminum trim inspired by hanji, a traditional Oriental paper and is available at 47.5 million won (including VAT). The “sports” model offers a more dynamic driving experience and is available at 49.8 million won (including VAT).

Nissan Korea President Gregory B. Phillips said: “We are very excited that Korea is the first market in the world to receive the new Infiniti G35 sedan, which well-incorporates Infiniti’s identity. The all-new Infiniti G35 sedan will give Korea consumers the highest level of satisfaction possible with its strong performance and reasonable price, as well as outstanding design in its segment.”

Mark Igo, vice-president and general manager of the Infiniti Division for Nissan North America who visited Korea to celebrate the first-ever launch of the new Infiniti G35 Sedan, said: “Infiniti is becoming a globally recognized luxury brand. The new G35, which is gaining much attention around the world, is Infiniti’s latest creation. By launching the new G35 here in Korea, Infiniti is progressing more quickly towards its goal.”

Interesting. This is the most promising candidate to challenge the 335i. It has the power, but will it have the handling?
