The Tokyo Auto Salon sees the public revelation of the Honda NSX Mugen RR Concept. The concept has been inspired by the Honda NSX sports car which was recently put on production hold by Honda. It features a new hood with new air vents, new side sills, a rear boot spoiler, an air vent at the back of the roof, a new rear apron with integrated exhaust system and air diffuser, and a new front lip spoiler.

Last month Honda announced that it had cancelled the 2010 NSX project amid cuts in funding for projects seen as too costly during these trying times in the auto industry.

From the see-through technical cutaways published the NSX was shown to have a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 engine. It was expected to produce in excess of 500hp (378kW) and Honda bosses had demanded that it be faster than the Nissan GT-R.

No further details are yet available on the NSX Mugen RR Concept.

I hope Honda and Mugen will put this gem into production now that NSX Mk. II has been delayed indefinitely.

Th styling of the NSX RR Concept took a lot of inspiration from the Japanese JGTC series NSX racecars. But the most interesting thing is that the engine (still the C32B engine) in the NSX RR Concept is longitudinally mounted and not mounted sideways like the standard NSX.

The red suede covered interior is stunning.

Honda needs this car to show the world it has not lost any of its mojo. It will be a nice low volume model to keep things going until the global economy recovers and for Honda to launch the new NSX successor. If Honda and Mugen can keep prices on par with the Nissan GT-R V Spec, this car will be a winner.

Now, the only question is how much it costs and whether it is possible for the NSX RR Concept to be produced by Mugen.

No offenses, but it makes me remember the ricely-modded cars, I was used to play in late Need-4-speed games!

I always liked Nsx... but only when she is stock & yes, this concept looks like an absolute riced formula, imho!

I know exactly what you mean. I have seen some pretty crass mod jobs myself.

But Mugen is the official tuning arm of Honda so it has to be good.
