Villa Amista - 03-12-2007, 02:42 AM

Villa Amista
Looking at my previous post in this section you can see that I like colours. I thought I would share pictures of this great hotel located in Italy. The hotel has let a whole gang of prominent artists decorate the interior and I love the result. The mixture of contemporary, baroque and neoclassism is something I have never seen before. As a matter of fact I have never seen any mixture of two different movements. I would love to create a similar interior when I get my own pad.

Really? The only furnitures I recognise are the white/red "capsule" looking chair and the sofa with built in reading lights. So most of the furniture and decor can be found in expensive furniture stores? Other than that, what do you think about the interior, you type of interior?

There are a lot of things I like ...but only a few I would want to own.

The Ettore Sottsass 'Treetops' lamp (next to the yellow/green sofa) has long been a favourite of mine. I have used Sottsass's objects in my avatars like this . Sottsass is one my favourite architects/designers.

I also really like the Warren Platner wire dining chairs.

The Sirfo table (behind the green chair ) is by Alessandro Mendini (I have used his chairs as my avatars . He also designed those chairs in the bedroom with the harlequin pattern fabric.)

The 'Bocca' (Marilyn lips sofa) by Studio 65 is fun too.

Great stuff Lu .....these quirky things are by some very important designers.

Wow I guess you really do know your field. My favorit items are the bed tables in the picture below:

...........and this uber cool mirror(plus the shelf/table.

They would look nice togeter with this couch(other colours like black and white)

BTW do you know any good blogs or sites which covers comtemporary artists, design in general and unique furniture?

Sorry Lu, I got a bit carried away with that previous post ...I can't edit it now.

Is this villa completely new? ...it looks fairly new to me. I have to be honest and say that although I do really like this interior, I'm not sure I would choose to live with this type of interior.

If that was my house, I would probably prefer it to be decorated more like this.

This kind of Victorian reproduction-Baroque style is very chic right now.

I am sorry I don't know any blogs, but I can give you some website addresses for some of the best contemporary furniture manufacturers.

Naah Rob, you didn't get carried away at all. I hear you, I wouldn't either be able to live in a house with too many bright furnitures but I wouldn't mind having some splashes of colour here and there, I'm a colour whore.
I haven't be able to find out how old the hotel is but my guess is that the interior isn't more than 7 years old.
So you prefer the good old French type of interior? I think it's beautiful but if we are to talk about classic and more mature interiors I do prefer Oxford styled interiors a bit more.

I love French Baroque interiors (although the picture above is a town house in Belgravia, London ....but in the French style). The only thing is, I only really like the real thing, I am not interested in 19th century reproductions. My favourite French periods are Louis XIV and Régence -- but I am also very fond of Rococo, Louis XV and Louis XVI.

I am guessing your Oxford style is kind of a mix of Edwardian and Victorian themes ...do you have an example?

Hey Lu, if you like this kind of techni-coloured Victorian style that is so fashionable right now, you probably would like this company.

The chair below reminds me of Mendini's 'Proust' chair - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER but the Proust chair was designed in 1978 and is now one of the icons of twentieth century avant-garde design -- this, on the other hand, is simply a decorative object for the fashionable consumer market.

This is a wonderful company, one of the greatest names of Venetian glass making. Their magnificent and very expensive traditional chandeliers have recently gained renewed popularity in fashionable interior design.
