I'm sure the R32 is a worthy all-round "winner" but it'd never trump a 130i, let alone an STi in the dynamic stakes.

euhm, to each his own, but in the article it did just that. "the Bavarian rear wheel drive chassis simply does not provide the same spectrum of dynamic features as 4motion. The Subaru shows that 4wd can be a real asset and a real challenge. The R32 shows that 4wd can be as good a commuinicator as the best pair of driven wheels." Of course one quote doesn't tell the whole story, but this gives you the idea. BMW builds great cars, w/ great handling and dynamics, heck, that's what they're famous for, but that doesn't mean that they get it right everytime. Expect the unexpected.
