AutoExpress - Volkswagen Golf GT

Rating:

It's one of the hottest new cars of 2009... And Auto Express has got behind the wheel first.

Now in its sixth generation, the latest Volkswagen Golf is shorter and lower than its predecessor, but still instantly recognisable. It's stylish body looks modern and overall the design is less fussy than before. But with an unchanged wheelbase, cabin space is similar. The extra width helps rear passenger room but boot capacity is the same.

The dash design is similar to the current model's, but the central console is now angled more towards the driver, while the instrument binnacle features white backlit dials. Quality has taken a step forward too, as a result the Golf’s cabin is once again class leading but it’s the new levels of refinement that’s the most impressive.

Re: AutoExpress - Volkswagen Golf GT

I don't think I will be really popular for saying this...

But I kinda prefered the single frame facia like an Audi but different.

This little thing look like a baby touareg with an unfinished front design. Likeif they had to launch production but before being able to settle on a front design...

Re: AutoExpress - Volkswagen Golf GT

Well, in these interesting economic conditions VW may have just pulled a masterstroke with the Golf 6. Take a fabulous dynamic and technology platform, improve the areas that most needed improvement (such as build-quality and refinement) and offer a whole host of technical innovations unseen in this category.

For people buying down a segment there can be no better hatch to buy than the new Golf.

Re: AutoExpress - Volkswagen Golf GT

Rubbish - spending too much time on those abs and not enough time paying attention to what the essence of Golf is!

This car looks like a Golf - and that's all it has to do.

We're a family of VW owners; we know what class looks like and where to go find it. Please don't even get me started on the intrinsic appeal of a Golf - I've belaboured the point until the cows came home. You'll have to look at my comments in the Golf VI Official thread.

Re: AutoExpress - Volkswagen Golf GT

^LOL

Well no doubt thew Golf has been and will always be one of the best in that segment but IMO it also has fallen behind in looks which is not that important in that segment but i always cared about that much

New Scirrocco is 20 times better looking than the Golf.
