The comments about handling were probably in reference to his old ML55, imo all the W163's had pretty bad driving characteristics compared to the more modern competition that was out. Thankfully this has been alleviated.

It is nice to see such great comments about the GL, I was never impressed with the vehicle and never gave it a chance as a viable SUV compared to the RR, Q7, LX470 etc.

I finally saw the GL450 in th metal lastnight at a football game!
The vehicle is really nice looking and quit large. One again MB does a surperb job of hiding the overall mass by giving the body good serface details.

Many people feel that way.

I saw the GL in person a few months ago and despite being a large vehicle, the design makes it appear somewhat smaller than it really is. Sign me up for a GL320 CDI!

I have had to do some work on a GL450. At 1300 miles the interior was completely trashed, complements of the two beasts that occupy the two car seats.
$60K + on a car and it is completely ruined after only a few weeks.

May just do that myself wimmer.... Test drove one last week (the GL450) and handled extremely well and drove more like a car. With the diesel engine and loaded to the gills it would be a sweet ride. Having had three wagons and three diesels in the past...this model has my attention.

The S550 will be a year old in April and that is the allocation schedule that would allow for delivery of a GL that month. But who would trade a S550 for a GL320CDI...

Jack, if you need an extra son, I am willing to be adopted.

I'll earn my keep by cleaning your S550 everyday!

I think the addition of a GL in your garage would be kind of cool. You could use that car when you take a nice long vacation in the Rocky Mountains or something (and take excellent shots of it with nice backgrounds!).

Still, I'd keep the S550 and I wouldn't trade it in for a GL.

Not in the cards wimmer. If I decide to get a GL diesel it will be without the S550. Not a financial decision but a reality one. I don't need two cars anymore and as I grow older I feel a need to experience all that I can. I have had the S experience in probably the best MB ever built (subject to personal choice) and enjoyed it greatly. But now it is time for another experience...a return to my roots with a wagon/diesel combination. I do want to in the next year or two explore the rough terrain of the US west and the GL would be a good way to do it. I will make a decision sometime this week...

I respect your decision, Jack.

As usual, post awesome pictures once you get it (or "if" you get it).

Should I go the GL CDI route this is the combo I will select...Metallic Black with Ash and all options on the MBUSA site minus the Rear Seat Entertainment, Trailer Hitch and Heating Package.
