well to me that thing is crapp.... u cant call it a G. it looks more american than german....and its kind of like the ML class on steroides

Some good some bad. Good because looks like they have done a nice job of it. Bad because I don't think we really need another giant SUV on the market.

I got word the GL450 will start at about $55,000.

No. This shares it's underpinnings with the ML and the R. there is no shared platform cars with Jeep or Chrysler. The Crossfire is the only exception. That is built off the 1st generation SLK. The Commander and GL were designed and built 100% seperately. There are Zero shared components, which really is kind of puzzling. I would think MB could benefit cost wise by sharing some common components.

Lexus for example is more expensive than Toyota but they share many electrical components. thus Lexus' reliability. many things like the power window switch panel are the same in Camry and a LS430.

Isn't the Chrysler 300 the samething as the old Eclass?

It's not a G. As I mentioned in another thread, the G will continue to be sold in its current form in limited numbers in the USA. The GL is an ML on steroids. It shares its underpinnings with the ML and R, which are all built off the same platform. The GL is marketed to compete with the Navigator, Escalade, LX470 crowd. That has been a huge segment here in the US. The G sales about 1,200 units in the US. the Navigator, Escalade are exceeding 50,000 units.

the 300 uses the E chassis as well

Sorry but you are completely misinformed. The 300 does use the 5-speed transmission that MB is phasing out of its line. And I beleive it also uses the multi-link rear suspension. But that is it.
