Talking Toyota and Lexus considering uber-luxury brand to rival Rolls-Royce & Maybach

The biggest players in ultra-uber-luxury brands are Rolls-Royce and Maybach. The Japanese automakers for some reason refuse to build veichles to cater to rich folks that want to be driven instead of drive themselves - until now.

According to Japanese car magazine Carview, Toyota and Lexus are considering an ultra-luxury brand that will rival the likes of Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Maybach. A Lexus spokesman told the publication that the company has researched the demand for such a brand and feels that customers will “embrace their product.” -Total Bullshit

No details have been revealed as of yet; however, rumors suggest that a large sedan and a coupe are in the works and could be build on a modified chassis of the Lexus LS sedan. No word on whether Toyota will fit the car with a regular gasoline engine or add a hybrid system used in the Lexus LS 600h.

No name has been decided for the brand - so we’re wondering if you were Toyota and Lexus- what name would you pick?

Quote from Lexus Fan Boy:
"The name will be the Century. They building a new generation Century to rival R.R & Arnage. The model will be based on the LS."

The article sounds bogus to me... there just doesn't seem to be enough substance in it to even remotely sound legit.

As for the idea.. well considering the huge downturn in sales and profits right now for Toyota, I highly doubt they're going to entertain such an idea at present. In the future? .. who knows, they may create such a vehicle exclusively for the Asian market...but on a global scale I think it would be a bad idea. They should focus their resources on keeping Toyota & Lexus strong in the US market, and also being persistant in the European market.

There's no chance for them to compete with the likes of RR, Bentley and Maybach... even if they had the most amazing, luxurious, tech' advance car that rides like a sailboat on smooth seas and has a robotic butler to cater to your every needs while you sit in your 'ottoman-style sofa' back-seat, the lack of brand heritage/identity would be enough to make such a venture a flop (unless they target the Asian market only, then they have some sort of chance).

If they want to create more luxury vehicles, then I think they should expand the upper-end of the Lexus line-up. Create a new SC to go against the 6er and SL, maybe a coupe in the size of the 6er or utilise the LS chassis to create a CL-like coupe. Maybe even create a compact SUV/4WD for the US market since the RX has been a HUGE hit over the years.

I engaged in heated discussions with MORONS (aka Lexus fanboys) about this on Autolies. Didn't feel it was worth mentioning on this site, plus Autolies isn't known for their reliability when it comes to data such as this.

Either way even if it is true, then it's got FAIL written all over it IMHO.

Another interesting Lexus thread over at Carspin.

2010 Lexus RX

As usual I am by myself (Submariner does support me).

Everyone at Carspin seems to think that this interior is "awesome"! Looks mega cheap to me. I would love to see Lexus create an ultra luxury brand and produce interiors like this! "YES, WE RIVAL ROLL ROYCE! HAI!"

ROFL! This thread ...

Toyota generates negative cash flow, and multi billion dollar loss. I doubt the think about Rolls rival right now - rather about how to survive this crisis.

Although ... I'm sure Toyota is crazy enough to produce "ultra-luxury" instant brand without any heritage (which is VERY important ins such class) ... And in the case they did it I won't be surprised if the brand is called Splendidus or Brilliantus. LOL!
