Bond stunt driver takes plunge into lake in Aston Martin DBS - 04-19-2008, 09:06 PM

At 6:30 this morning, a stunt driver shooting a scene for the upcoming James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace, lost control of an Aston Martin DBS while filming a chase scene and plunged into Lake Garda in Italy. The film's executive producer, Anthony Waye, said that the scene was being shot in the pouring rain, and although the DBS didn't survive it's unplanned excursion into the water, the driver sustained only minor injuries and was released from the hospital earlier this afternoon. MI6 declined to comment on the incident, but a spokesperson for the agency remarked that the submersible kit for the Aston was under development. Too little, too late Q.

So he's driving the DBS yet again in this movie which is kinda strange. I figured the DBS lost most of its novelty after the previous movie but I guess not.

It would have been brilliant marketing if he drove the new AM Rapide! Speaking of which, when is that thing going into production?

This is nothing. During the recording of a previous Bond movie they used a fleet of 9 Vanquish.

Think so too but no big difference really since the rapide is just a stretched DB9

Again, not the best news:

He is reported to be in a critical condition, while fellow stunt driver Bruno Verdirosi was also injured in the crash. The Alfa, as you can see from the pictures, is a write-off.

It’s the third car smash-up in just a week on the Quantum of Solace set. Last weekend, an Aston engineer lost control of a DBS and plunged into Lake Garda, and just hours later a stuntman was injured in another crash.

Bond crashes!

Filming for the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace has been suspended after a string of crashes, the first of which saw the starring car, the Aston Martin DBS, being dragged out of Lake Garda.
The latest incident has left a stuntman in a coma after the shooting for the opening scene went wrong for a second time. It involves a villain chasing Bondıs DBS in an Alfa Romeo 159.
The Greek stuntman, Aris Comninos, suffered a fractured cranium after colliding with a lorry and is currently described as stable. He was involved in a crash a week ago filming the same scene, with a re-shoot ordered after the production team werenıt happy with the initial result.
Comninos has a heap of experience, winning a Screen Actors Guild award for his involvement with the Bourne Ultimatum another film with an action-packed car chase as its highlight.
The second incident came on the penultimate day of shooting, with claims the film and its 40 stuntmen are cursed. It all began with scenes of the demolished DBS littering the newspapers after an Aston engineer spun it into the water while driving to a press event incurring a speeding fine rom the Italian police in the process. Despite the drama, he got out and swam from the car unharmed.
