Exclamation Toyota Hilux fails the elk test. - 01-22-2008, 09:54 AM

Oh dear... Bad news for almighty Toyota.
______________________

The "invincible", "only car to reach to the North-Pole" and "Every terrorist runabout", the Toyota Hilux, failed the elk test done by the Swedish motor magazine "Teknikens Värld"
(
English: "World of Technology"); the same Swedish motor magazine that rolled over the Mercedes A-Class (W168) in the elk test back in 1997.

The other pick-up truck is a Mitisubishi L200 which has an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) as standard. The Hilux is the one that nearly rolled over and it doesn't have ESP not even as an optional extra.

Wow, that was nearly a roll over! I can't understand, why they don't over systems like ESP as standard!

Just wondering, do people really drive like that in a pickup?

I remember when Auto Motor und Sport slammed the Land Rover Defender for failing the Elk Test. In the next issue they published a lot of reader comments which said that nobody who buys this car will expect it to handle well.

I guess if you drive this Hilux "normally", nothing can happen.

The whole point of the test is to see how the car behaves under an emergency manouver.

Guess you have to try to avoid emergencies then.

A modern car should be safe.
However everybody also knows pick-up are pieces of crap...

What surprises me is more how well the Mitsu reacts, I think Toyota has not changed enough and the Hilux is still an old-scholl, outdated pick-up compared to Mitsu and Nissan.

Toyota is often in the garbage bin those times I find...
