Forget the naysayers and the cynics - you have to love the classic appeal of the G-Class. Even if you don't, you still have to respect any model that's able to hold a prominent place in the Mercedes lineup for nearly 30 years. Personally, Mercedes can keep the G-Class in the model lineup for the next 100 years and I'll be more than happy to publish each and every update they make to the industrious SUV.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. For now I have to stick to the changes Mercedes is making to the G for the 2009 model year, and as you can see above, the design changes - while subtle - once again aim to bring the SUV's styling more in line with its younger siblings. Most notably, a new grille featuring three louvres has been added, replacing the former model's seven or so louvres.
Another significant change to the 2009 G-Class is in terms of power for the G500. Thanks to Mercedes' M 273 M55 KE V8, output is boosted to 285 kW (388 PS), while torque is increased to 530 Nm. Power for the G55 AMG increases as well, with total output now weighing in at 373 kW (507 PS).
And finally, the last major changes for the 2009 G-Class are in terms of equipment. New Telematics systems, new wheels and various electronics options are all available to ensure a superb level of luxury and comfort.
Want to see the full list of changes? I thought you might. To do so, you can check out the German 2009 Mercedes-Benz G-Class description, options and pricing list here, but remember: if you live in the U.S., there's no guarantee as to what will make it stateside. For the rest of you, production kicks off in September 2008, so get the checkbooks handy.

It is part of its charm. It's completely overpriced, completely outdated, in AMG completely overpowered and with an insane consumption but it has an enormous charisma. It's hand down my favourite SUV ever, and to be honest the only SUV I would ever consider. I just love it.
I love the alliance between old and new...
the oldfashioned mirrors, but with LED blinker,
the old wipers, but with automatic function,
the old round lamps, but automatic and with Xenon,
the old taillights but with LEDs...
You use old, squared doors with visible hinges to access a luxurious and modern interior, with oldschool differential-buttons...
You have all types of electronic equipments, but only two airbags (or maybe four, not sure about that)...
You have all kinds of electronic driving-aids and electronic 4-Matic, but can turn all this off and use full-mechanical differential blockers to turn it into the best of the best in hard conditions (except the Unimog)...
The AMG can accelerate faster than a Cayenne Turbo, but is limited to 210km/h...
Especially in AMG, with the insane noise coming out of the side-pipes, it's absolutely fabulous. I adore the G, and hope it will stay in the line-up forever without too much changes. It's full of contradictions, it's completely outclassed by the GL in every aspect, but it's soo unique, so full of paradox and contradictions... Love it.
This FL is not bad, but the AMG doesn't get this new grille AFAIK. And here the wheels ruin it a bit, they are awful. | | | | | The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to coolraoul For This Useful Post: | | | Fanatic

| And yet you were in another thread complaining about how CELIS LEDs don't go with normal LEDs and something about how they don't flow (BMW E90/91 3-Series Facelift Thread). Oh, well...
ps. No, I am not questioning your taste, but just pointing out how our brand preferences shade it. | | | | | Fanatic

No, you misunderstood me.
I didn't say CELIS don't go with LEDs in general, only that these particular CELIS did not flow with these particular LEDs. The CELIS end nowhere, and then suddenly you have the LEDs, and the two don't flow together. It's only a design PoV.
I have nothing against the alliance between CELIS and LEDs, but in this particular pic (FL e90) the two looked like glued together without flowing. Maybe the rear deal will be better, as EnI pointed out that the CELIS are slightly different IRL...
The FL 5er has CELIS and LEDs, but the two are perfectly allied. | | | | | Fanatic

I know it is a design POV, but one tinted by whose design it is and no, you are not alone in this, I think every one of us seem is susceptible to it. This one was just glaring cause I happened to read one thread after the other. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
