Strange, Putin, being such a nationalistic president, I would have thought he would be driven in a Zil limousine -- then again, you can hardly blame him for ditching that option.

I think he does have a ZIL in the garage. However, when I see him in a limousine, it is usually a S600 Pullman (W140). So it looks like he got a new limo.

Putin has a lot of enemies. If you have enemies, which car you would choose for a safe ride? The S-Class GUARD or the Zil Limo? The S-Class GUARD will offer him protection that the Zil Limo can't match.

Are you sure about that? I'm not. The Zils have been in the Russian fleet for a long, long time. I think that is a testament to their construction. American security limousines do not last ten-years in the government fleet.

As far as I know, Zils have a different design and build than factory-produced armored cars. Zils also have full B7-level armor. Even the glass, which is over two-inches thick, is rated B7. That ought to be a higher protection than any S-Class Guard, in my opinion. S-Class Guards are B6/B7 so I reckon their glass is not as strong as an armored Zil's glass.

I think his W140 S-Class Pullman was a MB Guard. The new one I am not sure about because I have only seen that one picture above. I suppose it could be one of the Centigon-built (formerly Trasco of Bremen) S600 with B7 steel and B7 windows. Trasco used to build three variants of stretched S-Classes. They probably still do.
