Williams submits official 2010 entry

May 25 (GMM) Williams on Monday lodged paperwork with F1's governing body to officially enter the 2010 world championship.

Presently, the move is at odds with the other members of the FOTA teams alliance, who as recently as Sunday told Max Mosley in an unanimous letter that they would not be making the May 29 deadline unless the proposed rules are repealed.

But the Grove team's CEO Adam Parr, whose boss Sir Frank Williams signed the Mosley letter in Monaco on Sunday, insisted to the Reuters news agency that it does not mean Williams no longer backs the alliance.

"Williams has - and has always maintained - that we have a binding contract with both FOM (Formula One Management) and the FIA to participate in the world championship from 2008 to 2010," he said.

"We have been paid in full for our participation and we feel both morally and legally obliged to make it clear that we will participate in formula one in the future as we have in the past 30 years.

"We owe this to our employees, our sponsors and the fans, all of whom are affected by statements that the teams may not enter next year's championship," added Parr.

I hate Williams and I hate the current F1 season.

Hope the teams dump this crappy series.

I have a lot of respect for Frank Williams and his team but he could sure have held out a little longer rather than throwing in the towel while talks are ongoing. Can't believe he's giving in to the 40 mill budget cap and two tier system.

F1 teams are all in for 2010

After protests and controversy, Ferrari, Brawn and Co apply for 2010 F1 entries.

After weeks of controversy and speculation, the seemingly inevitable has happened – the 2010 Formula 1 grid is pretty much as you were.

A proposed £40m voluntary budget cap – with technical and development benefits for those who selected to comply with it – had led to threats of quitting next year’s F1 championship from all of the teams in the F1 Teams’ Association (Fota), with Ferrari the headline-grabbers.

However on signing-up deadline-day, all of those teams have now signed up, meaning Ferrari, Brawn GP, McLaren and Red Bull will all be present next year. Williams, BMW Sauber, Toro Rosso, Renault and – a surprise to many – Toyota will join them.

A statement on behalf of the Teams’ Association said ‘Fota confirms all its members' long-term commitment to be involved in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. It has unanimously agreed further and significant actions to substantially reduce the costs of competing in the championship in the next three years.’

Fota wants next year’s F1 season to operate on the basis of current technical regulations, and said that all its teams would race in 2010 if a new financial agreement can be reached with F1's management by June 12. That is also the day the FIA is due to publish its list of 2010 team and drivers list.

On that list could be Lola and Prodrive, the latter planning to enter Formula 1 with the potential torebrand its team as Aston Martin further down the line. Interesting times.

My granny says she wants to enter with her own F1 team as well in 2010.

She has a valid driver's license, and she likes to watch F1 races - so, she feels more than qualified.

I will not watch a single race of this crap series.

"Oh, welcome to F1, everyone may join! The lousier you are, the better your benefits..." "What did you say? Could you not afford a F1 car? Well, under the new communist regulation, Ferrari, McLaren and Toyota will have to pay for your car."
