Canada GP may sub for troubled Abu Dhabi GP (Rumor)

Abu Dhabi in trouble, Canada to sub?

Mar.29 (GMM) Canada could be set for a shock return to the formula one calendar, a local television channel reported on Sunday.

Citing rumours from the Melbourne paddock this weekend, the French language Reseau des Sports cable channel said organisers of the inaugural Abu Dhabi grand prix - scheduled as the 2009 season finale - have fallen behind in construction of its circuit.

Abu Dhabi's problems are reportedly due to the global financial crisis, with Montreal considered as a substitute despite falling off the 2009 calendar after a commercial disagreement with Bernie Ecclestone.

However, Canada would apparently not simply replace Abu Dhabi's November event, but instead host a race before the Brazilian grand prix in October, which would become the new last round of the championship.

This thing has been in the local news here since the last GP where the rumours officially started.

Apparently there is a strong indication that Bernie is negotiating this to happen!?

What I find kind of fishy about this is the date... November! It can get pretty chilly in Montreal at that time, even possibly some light snow?! So what are they thinking?!

This is wishful thinking. The government in UEA have pockets deeper than the pasific ocean, and would impossibly embarrass themselves by not having the circuit ready for the race. Heck they are almost finished with the world's tallest building. An F1 circuit is like playing with lego, very easy task for them.

Actually me myself was following this project as part my work in YAS island (where the race will be held). Everything is on schedule and nothing has been stopped or slowing down. A small visit would tell you a lot. Actually when one of my subordinates visited the island he told me that the circuit is ready and full of tire marks apparently some of the amateurs are already having fun on track there

I thought so. Not having the track completed due to financial problems would be baaaaaaad publicity that the sheiks over there wouldn't allow. Espcially when they own a considerable chunk of Mclaren, Ferrari and MErcedes.
