![]() ![]() | The best driver to build a winning team around Wanted to ask this for a long-time, but haven't had the chance. As many of you know, I always admire the F1 drivers who bring the total package and have the ability to develop their cars. I suppose that is why I got tired of all the Alonso-bashing and started to move closer to Camp Alonso with some of his fans. I really don't like the guys who just drive the cars in the races and do little else on the technical end. I think the greatest ever at advancing development of a car, building, motivating and sustaining a team is without doubt Schumacher. What about current drivers? I didn't include some of the old guys like Fisico, Coulthard, Rubens. I wanted younger drivers that can stay within the team for 6, 7, 8-years. After this season and the problems he had with his team, I wonder if Alonso would still win the poll. Alain Prost was a great driver, The Professor, but he reputedly had team issues with Mclaren and Ferrari. ** For this poll assume you have the budget of Toyota and can afford anyone on the list without having to make cutbacks elsewhere! ** |

Agreed. Quote:
The great Fangio had problems with both Ferrari and Maserati. And before WWII the great Nuvolari had problems with Alfa Romeo. In more recent times, Niki Lauda, also a package, had problems with Ferrari and McLaren just like Prost. In case you don't know the part Lauda's retirement press conference: At that press conference Ron Dennis wasn't invited, because Lauda was sick of him. But McRon showed up anyway, and preceded to tell the press that Lauda should be thanking his lucky stars he got to drive for McLaren. Lauda told him he better shut up or he was going to have an enemy for life. Quote:

And just what does this have to do with being a total package and having the ability to develop the car ?! | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The best driver to build a winning team around I haven't voted at all but I don't know anything that makes Heidfeld the developer, what I do know is that Kubica has the skill and knowledge to develop a car. So I understand the one who voted for him.
