Contrary to earlier reports, Bernie Ecclestone confirmed on Friday that the first Singapore Grand Prix will be staged at night.

"As a night race we anticipate it will quickly establish itself as one of the most dramatic and atmospheric races on our calendar," he said.


In explaining that the event towards the end of next year's calendar would be the 'first ever' night race, the F1 supremo also hinted that talks to also stage the season opening Australian Grand Prix under lights next year had not been successful.

Night events are relatively common place in NASCAR, Champ Car and IndyCar.

Me too; imagine how scary that'll be, screams like from hell in the night...

I'm not a fan of these night races, and I know the only reason he is making the night races is to satisfy European Audience. Because all night races will be in the southern hem, so people in the north don't have to stay up late to watch the F1...

I think it will also be a danger to the driver's, and extremly expensive to set up and will use alot of energy. F1 going green? Yeah right...


Just adding, the coverage of F1 here is held for 2 hours to show 'big brother, up late'. So I have to stay up until 2 am watching the race... So the station can show a bunch of dickheads sleeping? My god..

I have 3 TVs in my house and i've told to my wife and my sis that visits us regulary, that if i see that shit being watched on any of my TVs, i'll break their legs.

The most irritating and idiotic show or however you call it that i've ever seen on tv.......

None of our family watch it, and I don't know a single guy that watches it... Its all womens fault its still on TV...

No joke there is about 2 and a half hours of it on nightly.

i think if there is sufficient light, it wouldn't be much of a problem
However, if it rains, then it would be.

And, we do get quite a lot of rain
The race is slated for Sep/Oct, our rainy periods are usually Nov, Dec
But with climate change, rains are very heavy now

I am really not a fan of Ecclestone since the Australian GP. I saw many interview with him, and he is such and arrigant and ignorant person. F1 is not his passion, is just his business.

His wife was born in Croatia and therefore his surname doesn't irritate me...

But just his surname; his face and what he's doing with F1 does irritate me... Big time!
