Rosberg crash sends Williams home

Rosberg crash sends Williams home02 May 2007Williams have decided to end their Barcelona test session early after Nico Rosberg crashed heavily on Wednesday morning. Rosberg emerged unscathed, but extensive damage to his FW29 has prompted the team to head home to the UK. With the test having been extended into Thursday due to Tuesday’s poor weather, it means Williams will miss out on a day and a half’s worth of running at the Spanish Grand Prix circuit.

Rosberg lost control over a kerb after just two laps and spun before impacting with the wall, tearing off the car’s nose and much of its right-side bodywork. It was Williams’ second big accident of the week, following test driver Kazuki Nakajima’s shunt on Monday.

That one caused delays to the team’s programme and Williams’ woes were further compounded by Tuesday’s rainstorms, which prevented any serious development running. In total the team have completed just 90 laps this week - far fewer than they would have hoped for ahead of next weekend’s Spanish race.
