Re: Mclarens new front wing design

Given the fact that the its length is about the same as the rear wing, yet the depth is much less, its bound to be less rigid. If the rear wings of last year flexed under load, then I'd suspect this front wing would flex too.

In fact I hope McLaren do install this wing on the car on race day, and I hope it flexes. It would be a laugh if the other teams complained about McLarens front wing flexing, given the fact that it was McLaren that complained about the underfloor flexing and rear wing flexing of the other teams - a real "taste of their own medicine".

hahahahah that would have been wonderful, but it is higly unlikely. The rear wing generates a lot more downforce than this new front wing, so even though this new front wing has a relatively tiny cross sectional area, the load applied to this wing is tiny when compare to the load on the rear wing. The stress level in the front wing is not large enough to make it flex, that is if Mclaren use the same carbon fiber with the same material orientation as the rear wing.

Well I'll leave it to the aerodynamicists here to explain. I'm trained in the computer industry, so definitely not my forte. Either way, lets see what benefits this new aerodynamic part will bring.

And if you thought the McLaren front wing was weird. Here's honda's take on it:

Re: Mclarens new front wing design

Very interesting indeed. I am 100% sure Bernie will ban this ugly thing for sure. The ITV website calls it the elephant ears, and i have to agree.... this is definitely not a plesent sight. If the car has a good initial aero design, all these bits and pieces will not be required.
