![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Traction Control Banned for 2008 Traction control will no longer be legal in Formula One racing from the start of next season. The change is just one of a number to the 2008 regulations agreed by the teams and FIA at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council earlier this week. Article 9.3 of the newly-revised technical regulations states: “No car may be equipped with a system or device which is capable of preventing the driven wheels from spinning under power or of compensating for excessive throttle demand by the driver. Any device or system which notifies the driver of the onset of wheel spin is not permitted.” Outlawed in the 1990s, traction control was legalized for the 2001 season when it was felt that sophisticated electronics had made policing the ban impractical. From next season, however, standardized ECUs should make enforcement far easier. Under other changes agreed, the regulations regarding engine homologation will be relaxed slightly, with teams able to make in-season adjustments to a longer list of components, including fuel injection and exhaust systems. May be this will help overtaking because this will cause people to make lots of mistakes. But I also think that this will get quite dangerous because there will probably be more accident. ![]()

The cautious one will be overtaken, the wreckless ones will either win, mess up for themselves or that plus crash into others. This is really going to change F1big time. Like you mentioned it will separate the really good drivers from the wimps. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Traction Control Banned for 2008 Another stupid move by FIA. ![]() Restriction, restrictions, restrictions ... always new restrictions. I'm curious how much longer will big car manufacturers (MB, BMW, Honda, Renault, Toyota & Ferrari / Fiat) tolerate such retarded moves. FIA is banning everything - braking all the needed development. F1 has always been about hi-tech. Car makers are there to test new solutions, and to implement such solutions in production cars. We got a lot stuff from F1 (turbo engines, active suspension, traction controls, launch controls, sequential gearboxes, better tires, telemetrics etc). This latest FIA move is just pure stupid! ![]() I just hate Mosley & Ecclestone so much! ![]() If they want real driver contest they should get all drivers identical cars. And that's it. But that's not F1 anymore! I'm sorry because some small teams are not able to follow the big ones. But that's their own fault - if they are not able to finance all the testing & development they should leave. I'm sure there are other parties (big car makers) interested in F1 participation. It would be nice to see Porsche again in F1, or some VAG brand ala Bentley, Lambo or Audi. F1 should be a playground of big ones. Fighting as much as possible - for the sake of development. And now stupid FIA is ruining everything. FIA will sooner or later kill F1 essence. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Traction Control Banned for 2008 Just an example: The new V8s are: limited to 19000 RPMs by FIA + NO exotic materials (banned) + NO exotic fuels (banned) + NO variable intake systems (banned) + NO variable exhaust systems (banned) + NO variable valve control systems (banned). Plus the V8 is for F1 an retarded architecure because of its vibration tolerance limit. |
