Honestly, I'm not for overly intrusive aids, but restrictions and spec-ing is not the true nature, the true soul of F1, of Grand Prix racing.

And no you and I will not be able to drive those things, far from it.

Just picture this, Turkey GP track, Turn 8, 6G 300 Km/h. You and I would be inconscious.

F1 has always been a team competition!

Winning a team championship was much more respected than winning a driver championship. Yet lately in the era of superstars Bernie & Max are making money selling names ala Senna, Hakinnen Schumacher, Alonso, etc and transforming F1 to fit superstars.

There has always been driver factor but was not the most important.

In last years F1 is morphing from motorsport to racing competition.

Like I said: if they really want pure driver contest they should run completely standardized car only. All drivers in almost same cars. But then no car maker would participate in such charade.

F1 has been, and should again be team competition. McLaren vs Ferrari vs BMW vs Renault vs Toyota vs Honda etc But today a superstar is more important than a whole team.

Unfortunately these days stupid little people need their own little individualized & personalized gods for praising & worshiping.

Re: Traction Control Banned for 2008

I see it the other way around.

For F1, the WDC was more important than the WCC. The WCC was introduced in 58 vs 50 for the WDC. The first man who considered the WCC more important was Frank Williams.

If we go back to the begings of GP racing than it was manufacturer and car first, driver second.

Re: Traction Control Banned for 2008

They keep on saying that they are doing this so the teams with less money can compete.

Well fine, here is a solution. Limit the spending by imposing this. The maximum amount of money ANY team can spend is $100million. After that, no more restrictions. Let the teams do whatever they can with 100mil.

Wouldn't that be better?

I had the same idea. Just that 100 million is way too little for F1.

Re: Traction Control Banned for 2008

Was there any info about how FIA is going to make sure that teams don't have any kind of TC? Because wasn't TC allowed because FIA had no way of telling if teams were using it? But anyway I think this is one (and only) of the good decisions lately in F1.

Well, despite that. I think this is a pretty good idea. At least it's worth another try.

Re: Traction Control Banned for 2008

Are all these still banned?:

Active suspension
ABS-brakes
4-wheel steering (not the same as 4WD/AWD)
Adjusting the car by telemetry (from the pit area)

What about the gearbox? Which one is automatic, upshift or downshift?

Re: Traction Control Banned for 2008

^^Bmer...I all those you listed are still banned.

Imhotep...Well if 100mil is too less how about 150mil? I mean that's how much Renault's budget was and they won the last 2 championships.
