2006 Mercedes E350 CGI: 292-hp & 365 Nm (270 lb/ft)

Found this on the Autobild forums where one member posted this. I had no idea MB had done this. Mercedes has constructed a direct-injection version of the 3.5-l V6. This new motor is rated at 292-horsepower and 365 (270 lb/ft) of torque. Average fuel consumption is 9.0 L / 100 km Super Plus (26.1 mpg).

Also, Mercedes has confirmed that the new 5.5-l V8 found in the W221 S500 / S550 will find its way into the E-Class. That's 388-horsepower for you right there. For Europe, the E200 CDI will get a power boost from 122-hp to 136-horsepower, while the popular E220 CDI is upgraded to 170-horsepower from 150-hp. The E320 CDI's power rises from 224-horsepower to 231-hp. A new entry-level model for Europe is the E200 CGI (170-hp 1.8-l 4-cyl.) which also uses direct-injection. The 6.3-l V8 AMG engine will produce 514-horsepower.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whoo that really is great. I hope it filters throughout the range ASAP. And they need to get of their asses and dump the ancient 5 litre form cars like the CLS, ML, R etc.

I don't remember, but does the 6.2L AMG V8 have direct injection? And are the 1.8L the new turbo-charged units?

Ahh I remember now why MB has been cautious in their deployment of this technology. It was because of concerns over fuel quality in some markets and the availability of the required octane level gas. Not because they have been getting slack. Stupid Me.

Re: 2006 Mercedes E350 CGI: 292-hp & 365 Nm (270 lb/ft)

Mr Mercedes and cawimmer430 picture me jumping out of my chair reading this!!!!!!!

I remember when the direct-injection V6 was shown very quietly with the hybrids a little while ago. I said to myself that Mercedes is going to put this engine in production soon enough and poof! Here it is!!!!!!!!!

This works out to 288hp for the U.S. market E350. Remember that Edmund's article in which MB said that the world's cleanest direct injection petro engine was coming to the U.S.? I think they're looking to make a big splash with the new FL E because it has gotten a black eye over the last few years.

We all were just talking about how Mercedes was taking their time with direct injection for their petrol engines and here they are, just as I predicted.

Another prediction: The new V8s will get the technology in 2007 for 2008 model Benzes!!!! Watch and see. Expect the 5.5L V8 to go over 400hp with less fuel consumption.
