Oh what nonsense, the wagon is not a shooting brake in design. Whether or not it is delayed is the only question. Ditto for the convertible. A shooting brake it clearly is not, the thing is huge in spy pics.

Complete BS. The E-class wagon is as good as finished. These pics were taken just days ago, with almost no cladding left:

Should be official very soon. Looks gorgeous!!

What I think got lost here is that a shooting brake version of the E-Class wagon is being delayed or cancelled.....which is just as well IMO. It isn't needed.

Saying the same thing, but here is an article from Automobile Magazine -

While the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-class sedan and coupe will go on sale shortly in the U.S., rumor has it that the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-class cabriolet has been delayed, along with the wagon version of the car.

Spy photographers have captured many pictures of the convertible version of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-class, which was supposed to debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. According to German car magazine Auto Motor und Sport, the convertible variant will not be revealed until several months later at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show.

The reason for the delay is reportedly due to cash flow problems at Daimler. Unsurprisingly, the company has seen dramatic drops in sales of its flagship S-class, along with several other models, because of the struggling economy.

Another variant of the car that will be delayed is the E-class wagon that our West Coast editor captured in Germany. The new wagon version is described as more of a shooting brake car than a true wagon, although our spy photos suggest otherwise. The wagon is still set to be shown a year after the cabriolet version of the E-class goes on sale, but that date is now almost

Of course Mercedes-Benz hasn't confirmed or denied these rumors yet.

Ok, we have a Mercedes-Benz Denial. It seems as though Auto Motor Und Sport generated the report that MB would delay the E-Cabrio until Geneva and the E-Estate until a later time. However, this morning, Mercedes-Benz revealed that the Cabrio and Estate will not be delayed, but will be on schedule. The E-Estate will debut @ Frankfurt, which seems obvious, just in time for the snowy season. The E-Cabrio will debut in Geneva, which, again, is pretty obvious, due to the fact that the Convertible season starts right about then. I never really understood why MB would delay the two models anyway...

This also has been confirmed on autoblog

And the car pictured is not a shooting brake either. Maybe that variant is delayed, but the regular wagon I'd say is not.

Thanks for the update jsciales -

Despite yesterday’s rumors, which came courtesy of a German news source, Mercedes-Benz confirmed this morning that two additional variants of the E-Class have not been delayed, but rather are on schedule. Expect to see the E-Class wagon introduced later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show and then, next year, the automaker will unveil the E-Class convertible.

Yesterday, Auto Motor und Sport claimed that Mercedes had decided to delay the launches of the E-Class cabrioletand wagon due to cost issues. But Mercedes-Benz clarified to Leftlane, saying that the wagon will still bow this fall and the convertible will be introduced in Geneva - a typical outlet for warm-weather cars.

The wagon is set to go on sale in June 2010 in North America - hardly a large wagon market - with the cabriolet following shortly thereafter.
