While we're on the subject of talking transmissions does anyone know what could be wrong with my mothers 5-speed in her R170. It will lurch every once in a while when you try to come to a full stop like it doesn't disengage at times, and if you don't come to a complete stop and get back on the gas it will rev a bit then jerk the car forward. It's been doing this for years and we've never gotten a straight answer.

That would be the same thing.

Might be an issue with the torque converter.

The throttle actuator in the engine is dirty and clogged up. The throttle is not completely shut and hence the jerk when you are about to come to stop. You don't need to get the current throttle actuator replaced (expensive). Just ask the mechanic to take it out and give it a thorough cleaning.

A tell-tale sign is your idle is a little rough and you have to keep your foot on the brake pedal harder than you normally would have to in order to remain stationary. The engine is also idling at higher rpm than it's suppose to.

If the throttle actuator is not the problem, then it could be something more serious. I'm thinking the gearbox control module.......................EXPENSIVE!

Not exactly. it means that the 5G starts in 1st in standard, because you are not in Winter normally.
The 7G does start in 2nd in standard, unless you want switch it to sport. Furthermore, my Dad has no C/S switch in his ML with 7G, meaning it surely starts in 2nd unless you hit it harder. And I find the throttle to be a tad too responsive, not always easy to make a cool start...
