I read somewhere, I believe in autozeitung, that the AMG V8 6,2 without DI is good for 580 PS. That is what the new gullwing should get. We should not forget that the facelifted S class will probably get more power at least S 600 and S63. I think that S600 gets the same output finally as Maybach - 404 kW, so the S 63 should get at least as much. The new E63 will get probably something like 550 PS. The new AMG V8 bi-turbo shoud get more than 600 PS, but the problem will be the torque (about 900 NM). There will have to be a completely new transmission unit. The currenct 7 speed can not handle more than 700 NM.

Mercedes usually never debuts a new engine opon launch date.
The engines usually get updated.. The current V8 in the S550 might get DI with the F/L S-Class
before it`s fased out. If it does the power will increase to around 420hp with amazing torque figures. This is good news for powerfans.. it might be the most powerful in it` class which is usually the case anyway.

Imagine the W212 E550 with those numbers.. amazing!

I thought I had more or less clear what the launch line up would be. But when I read your post you throw my thoughts to the bin. I thought that talking about petrol engines we would have the 350 of the SL with 315 hp (V6), the 450 with 350 hp or so (V8), and the 550 with 420 or something like that. Then the Diesel 320 CDI with 250 hp or so, and finally the E 63 with the 544 I have told you before.

And your theory is that the launch engines will be the same that the have now (with some exceptions like the diesels or the lowest engines, that will be the new ones), and a year and a half or two years after the launch we will see the new engines, with DIs, turbos, or whatever, nop?.

Just to let you know. JESMB.DE posted a list of planned engines.

Im EPC (elektronischer Teilekatalog) stehen nun schon die Motorisierungen der neuen E-Klasse. Der E 63 AMG, das T-Modell und die 4matic Versionen folgen erst im Oktober/November 2009.
Aktuell stehen im EPC folgende Motorisierungen:
E 220 CDI BlueEfficiency (OM651)
E 250 CDI BlueEfficiency (OM651)
E 280 CDI (OM642.850 statt OM642.960, spricht für neue Version mit mehr PS und EU5)
E 350 CDI (OM642, erhöhte Leistung, da er den 420 CDI (OM629) ersetzt)
E 300 (mit M272.952, ersetzt den E 280, der ebenfalls 3.0 Liter Hubraum hatte)
E 350
E 350 CGI sowie der
E 500 mit dem 5,5 Liter V8.

Später wird noch der Turboaufgeladene Vierzylinder Benziner sowie der E 200 CDI BlueEfficiency folgen.
Die genauen Daten gibt es am 10.01.2009.

The E350CDI is the diesel engine, and the E300 is just the E280 with a new badge. The current E280 has a 3.0 V6 anyway.
