Next-Gen Mercedes E Class to Feature Driver Attention Support System

Starting in the Spring of 2009, Mercedes will introduce its latest technology: the innovative driver support system Attention Assist, created to detect and warn of driver fatigue.

According to figures, more accidents are caused on motorways (highways) due to over-tiredness than under the influence of alcohol, putting into perspective how important this new system could prove to be.

It works by monitoring the driving style and conditions, the steering characteristics are highlighted as the most important, it monitors the personal driving style and steering behaviour of the driver and uses these to also detect the traffic situation based on the longitudinal and lateral acceleration. Additional factors also taken into account are the road condition, driving conditions (weather) and the time of day.

There is no official confirmation which model the new system will debut in, but we can be sure the system will make it to the all new Mercedes E-Class due for release next year.

Everything has gone weird ....first The Artist lists a BMW before any Merc as one of his dream cars ....and now klier is [almost] complimenting Mercedes -- I'm confused.

I thought BMW was introducing a driver fatigue detection system? Maybe that will debut with the mothership - 760Li

Yes they have. Soon the cars won't even let us reach for our cup of Fanta sitting in the mug holder. Thank god Porsche aren't installing any of these weird systems in the 911.
