ALU is so boring and out of place in a Mercedes - it may fit BMW or Audi but in MB is just cheap.

I had it in about 3 models and it sux big time, not to mention that every scratch and dint appears very fast - elegant wood trims are a much better option and it looks 10 x times better than ALU.

I agree. Full alu panels have no place in the E, CL or S. Looks very bare.

If any one want to contest my statement then please post photos to prove me wrong.

Wouldn't expect so. Audi only has them on the RS6 because it's one insanely expensive family car. Heck the standard A6 has plastic buttons.

Coming from Mercedes tho I would have thought they would offer some sort of trim

Metal coated buttons is expensive business which is why Audi only offer them in the €100 000 RS6 and Mercedes only in the S-class. Heck the Bentley continental GT has barely buttons in metal.

iDrive ver. 2.0 has 3 function buttons, and 4 shortcut buttons.

And 1 5-way knob / controller.

Function buttons:

Menu - brings you back to the main menu
Back - brings you one step back
Option - opens an additional option sub-menu if available (like mouse right button)

The shortcut buttons: CD, RADIO, TEL, NAV are really just shortcut buttons - to access some menus directly. Yet you can access them via main menu if that suits you better.

About the interior, it's just as expected, but honestly compared with BMW and even Audi, MB interiors lately are lacking character do you agree? BMW interiors you can certainly recognise at first glance, Audi interiors too (at least the current generation where the centre console is kinda wrapped up), but MBs, for example in this W212, apart from having some W124 inheritance, it just doesn't tell me it's a MB, it's a mix of BMW and Audi.
I guess it's unfair to compare the F01 to the W212, for obvious reasons, but let's wait for the F10, let's see whether BMW can integrate something that have great ergonomics, looks, driver orientation and luxury together.
