Oh. I was really just talking about all the spy shots we're seeing. Seems endless like the W221 was.

I am still very unsure about the styling. The car looks sooooo under-tyred on the side profile. The tyres look so tiny compared to the amount of metal surrounding the tyre-wells it hurts.

I hope it looks better without all the camo. But the shots taken have already given us a pretty clear indication on what to expect.

The rear wheel-arch is here to enlighten this part of the car, it will break the metal surface and make it much lighter. Of course here it's under camo, we can't see it.

I am irritated with this new Benz styling ...the superficial retro moldings over the rear wheel arches are just ghastly.

Eye-catching, populist styling over idealogical integrity. Sure, there are a lot of Mercedes metaphors in this design -- no mistaking it as anything other than a Merc -- but the way they have been applied and interpreted lacks authenticity for me ...MB's character has changed.

Where is the progressive pragmatism? ...this is a short-term fashion design -- and going by the grotesque tackiness of the Sex and The City / GLK campaign, Mercedes is obviously quite happy to compromise its illustrious heritage [of being a progressive industrial design leader] in favour of cheap throw-away styling gimmicks.

I know my comments will not be well received by many of the Merc fans ...but I am speaking honestly as a traditional Merc fan.

I am reassured by the fact they are obviously so keen to get the engineering right ...at least they still believe in that.

I think it is a retro detail taken from the Ponton and Heckflosse models from the '50s and '60s




This Retro approach very much came from Daimler's exposure to Chrysler. Chrysler has been obsessed with Retro design for two decades.
