DEATH VALLEY, California — Spy photographers caught the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class during hot-weather testing in Death Valley this week, and the latest photos offer a pretty good indication of the midsize sedan's evolutionary look.

Now just lightly disguised, it's easy to see the future Mercedes' chiseled lines, with only the smallest of details hidden beneath black camouflage.

No specifications have been released, but expect information to begin trickling out as the 2010 E-Class draws closer to its official debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The doors are massive (very high sills). Without the character lines (particularly the line running along the lower part of the doors) it would look very cumbersome.

This car looks too far down the line to only be revealed at Frankfurt 2009. Merc fans don't you suspect that a launch at Paris in September is quite possible? If not Paris then definitely Geneva would be the absolute latest...

Geneva I'd say. I'm hoping that we'll see either the CLK or the E at Paris, most likely the CLK.

Am I the only one who really think this car is going to look bad ? I mean it doesn't have the right proportions to start with ? L x W x H seems wrong ... glasshouse is a little bit big and not slick as the old model .. too edgy .. headlight rearlight looks dated already (in shape not details) .. the profile looks bland without those character lines which seems an after thought ! seriously this car already looks older than the current Audi A6 ! I guess MB doesn't have a clear strategy where they are heading with their designs ... an E that look like the C ? Humm ... I guess they are bringing the sausages of different sizes back ...

Not really hassan ... I have tons of examples where cars manage to look buautiful without relying on those lines .. look at the Maserati QP .. your beloved 911 ... even the new 7 series .. you'll notice that the body is flared not only at the wheel arches but slightly earlier to give it this sort of sculpture (as Bangle says) look. This E class ... looks plain ... and honestly .. it looks like MB is not able to a play with the metal right ..
