The topic is obviously of some interest to at least Raoul and myself, so even if you view it as pointless, that certainly isn't the case for he and I.

The same place you get quantifiable data on brand equity. I wasn't the one who claimed such data existed, so it's foolish that you're asking me for it.... unlike you who openly claimed that quantitative brand equity figures were readily available. I see you haven't been able to back that claim...

Just like you say I act everything has to be about the E-Class, you act like everyone has to go along with the most irrelevant, off-topic nonsense about BMW that you can come up with. You have got some gall and nerve to come here and talk about me trying to steer the thread when you were doing just that.......with something that was totally irrelevant at that. Really? I must have missed that in all the press about brand values, stock prices and overall health of these brands. If you don't understand how to search the net to gather information on the value of, health of and how a brand is generally thought of then it is your problem. How many threads do we have heard about status and prestige and what people think about certain brands? More than a few.

So what does that make you? This bs has gotten so bad lately, it didn't use to be like this at all. The reason GCZ/GCF was such a unique place is because there are all sorts of brands that we can discuss. Otherwise, all of us would belong to only places like bimmerpost or benzworld alone. Guys look at the join dates for all of us... Sept 2005. That's almost 3 years on this forum alone, let's drop it. ok so i lied about signing off this thread... this car is kind of a big deal

Alright let me try to steer this back into topic. Like I said before, this segment will be the most hotly contested imo, even more so than the 3er, A4 and C. All the big boys are coming out with what seems to be killer cars and I personally cannot wait till they are all put out on a comparo

Which is why I said the E-class is not a boat, which means its not as huge in size as the S-class, which also means that the S-class can get away with the shifter being behind the wheel, I think the E-class is much more sport oriented car than the S, which is why im worried about the appeal this will have to change to the E-class's overall impression ...

Yes well that was just a little thing to discuss briefly, but it somehow drifted out of control...

Anyway...

Concerning the gearlevel...it's very well behind the steering, because it's easy to use there, and quite fun I find. And it allows to have a lot of place in the center console, for storage places or cupholders, it gives a classier and more modern look without the old-fashioned level in the middle of the car. And it allows better access to the various switches.

But did anyone see a pic of the interior with a manual gearbox? I did not. Could that mean that the W212 will only come as auto, like the S, SL, CL, G or the ML/GL/R?

It would surprise me quite a little bit, given the amount of manual 200/220cdi we have here in Europe.

However I don't see another reason why they would put the gearlevel behind the steering. Of course other carmakers already made different center consoles if manual or auto, but not with such complex and expensive center consoles.

The solution I see, is to fit the gearlevel where the cupholders are. it's well placed, and cheap to replace the cupholders with the level because the center console remains unchanged. But wouldn't we have seen mules with manual already?

What do you mean? I think it will have some manuals.
