I disagree:
BMW has had it forever. Just because the four eyes of a BMW are under a plastic transparant cover since the E36 3-series (actually, I think it might have been glass on that model???) doesn't mean it isn't there anymore. In fact, since the angel eyes, they are almost as visible as the cars before the E36 (in the dark at least

4 eyes behind clear glass nowadays, something I believe the E36 3er started, as I said
