I think it has influence from both old Mercs and the 5 Series.

^^
Hmmm I had not noticed it. The 5er is influenced by the old Mercs.

Or is it? If it was, most MB fans would probably love Bangle era interiors.

Hey the copy is not necessarily as good as the original...

I mean, the actual Audi layout is very, very inspired by the e36 BMW...

There is a lot of inspiration from the one to the others, ideas that are abandonned by the ones and taken by the others, crossing ideas...

The truth is that many designs are similar because there aren't very many ways to design a interior layout without taking a big risk by stepping out the box.

Sure, but I think it's the first time I hear somebody saying that Bangle interiors are influenced by old Mercedes interiors. I believe the design concepts are quite different as the 5er have a lot of asymmetric lines combining round and angular design while the old Mercedes interior is more based on symmetric lines and angular shapes. The old Merc interior is also more integrated while the 5er consists of many separate parts, it's a bit puzzle-like. There are some small similarities but as the starting-points for the designs are very different, I don't think they are intentional. Personally I like the A6's interior more than 5er's or W211's interior.

If there is somebody who does that it's Bangle! Usually in a way that doesn't please everybody though.

Re: 2009 E-Class Sedan & Estate (Spy pics & details)

I think it's safe to say that the new E's interior will resemble the GLK's interior layout, mainly dash, center console and the COMAND screen. The only difference I see is the E won't have those squared air vents, it will have air vents similar to the S' with a clock between them.

The other thing is that it won't have those rotary AC controls like the C's and GLK's. The AC controls look (again) like buttons in the S.

What I wanna know is will it have a COMAND controller like the one in the C & GLK with an arm rest or will it have the one in the S/CL with the wrist rest and keypad.

I should also mention that I think it will also have similar tail lights to the ones on the CLC.

What you guys think??

Pictures for comparison:

Re: 2009 E-Class Sedan & Estate (Spy pics & details)

i agree with your insight.

as for what kind of comand controller the e-class will have, i think judging from the spyshot, the tiny hump in the middle of the armrest suggest it will feature knod with wrist rest and keypad.

unfortunately tho, the interior of the new e doesn't seem attractive at all based on the spyshots. i hope the press pictures can change my opinion.

Re: 2009 E-Class Sedan & Estate (Spy pics & details)

I fully agree with you, Yaz, for the dash. I think it will get the S/CL type of Controller/armrest, judging by the spy pics.

I don't think it is a bad idea to have interiors quite similar throughout the line-up, if some noticeable difference allw you to clearly differentiate the lower and upper models.

Trouble is, that this dash with the big screen connected to the counters is not that brilliant. It is quite heavy, and not particularly attractive. I like the overall squarish shape, the link with the W124, but not this big, obvious, not that good integrated screen.

Let's see a better pic, maybe it will turn good...
I love the actual exterior design of the newest Mercedes, but i think they could put more effort in the interior design. And unfortunately the interior is for me even more important than the exterior...
