Even the R-class looks good for what it's purpose is. Benz has one of the Best looking line ups right now that I have EVER sense. That goes from the Outstanding new CL to the C-class.

Now that interior you should looks different, but it will be nice once you get use to it.

Come on never doubt Mercedes-Benz.

Re: 2009 E-Class (spy pics & details)

Ouch! That was some heavy piece of camo! Looks like a Panzer.
So, no hope for the IAA, we won't see anything new...

I really don't understant the point of showing the succcessor so soon. It will make people hesitate, why buy now a car that soon will be old? And it is too long to wait, so let's go for an A6 of BM 5-Series (because they don't know that the 5-Series will be replaced also, even if a bit later, and that the A6 is about to be face-lifted to look like the new A4)...

Pretty stupid move imho.

And, Highestofhigh, I personnally like the interior of the W212 a lot, for the exterior, well, I'm waiting for the pics. But if the the Lexus-lights could be replaced by one-piece headlamps (or anything that does not look like somebody else already has) I honestly would be very glad...

For the Merc line-up, well I think they really are on the good road. They seems to be back where they belong, at the top. Finition, reliability, unbreakable-car-feeling, sharp design.

The only models I don't like at all, are the A and B-Class. Only available in Western-Europe. All the other models are at the top! And, the newest the better, which is really a good sign for the W212... I think it will be a real killer.

What about last generation ML-Class with the countless quality and reliability issues? Do you think MB really needs both A-Class and B-Class? Was the previous generation A-Class up to MB standards? What about R-Class sales that are low and required MBUSA to drop the R 63 and R500? Even the mighty MB isn't perfect.

The most surprising move is the 1987-95 W124 E-Class look to the design work (a clear Sacco influence), it`s all Mercedes-Benz. I like the bigger slab of wood in the dash! (The E has never had so much wood) but one of the greatest moves I like here is the replacement of those digital bar-graphs for the fuel and temp readouts. Thay are replaced with analogue chrome-rimed readouts which is a huge improvement for the whole instrument cluster adding timeless class. (for those complaining about the bigger piece of metal in the center air-vents I believe thats light reflection.)

Compare the W212 E to the 1987 W124 E, look center stack on the W124 where the stereo sat. The design on the newer model is exactly the same on the W212. A clear retro looking move here. This design move is going to attract MB fans and buyers alike, this is like listening to a classic rock song from one of my favorite bands thats been digitally updated with elements I`ve never herd before!

Compare that to the W211 model, you can see the attention to detail with the newer one. (take a look at those digital bar-graph readouts which I never liked in the W211 ) Mercedes should take great pride in their interior designs. Thay are the for runners of ergonomic design.

Maybe it's just me, but the interior looks like a cross between the W124 E and the E60 BMW
Does anyone see what I mean ??

Re: 2009 E-Class (spy pics & details)

He mainly spoke about the actual line-up.

The actual ML is number one in reliability in the last JDPowers, like the face-lifted E-class, SL-Class... And the new S-Class was just the most reliable car of the survey, even if it was in its first year so the most critical for the reliability.

The R-class, well, not so beautiful but perfect cruiser. I don't really love it, but is is a very very good car.

The CLS is a model for all the other premium-carmakers.
The C-Class has been praised by everybody.

The S-Class/CL-Class, well no comment here, the Perfection itself. SL-Class too.

The A and B-class are practical, very well finished and very reliable (top of their category, like all new Benzs).

I won't go through every model but sorry, the actual Benz line-up contains some of the best cars in the world.

You have to recognize it even if you are not a Mercedes fan.

The troubled era is over for Mercedes. I admit that some cars in the past deceived me, like the old ML, A-Class... Now it is over. All the new Mercedes are real Mercedes now, with the best reliability and quality you are awaiting from a Mercedes.

Re: 2009 E-Class (spy pics & details)

I agree with you.

I think this is because 1) the main lines are horizontal and 2) because the center console is cutted in two, which gives that horizontal impression instead of the traditionnal "T-console" of Mercedes.

Maybe the center console will no be exactly like that?

This is an interior I like. Wait to see the real thing though, but seems to go well with the sharp lines of the exterior. More typicallw Mercedes, even if a bit of BMW inspiration in it.

The W211's interior is wonderfull too, smooth and luxurious like the outside if the car.

Those lights: quad and dual at the same time, separated by a bit of plastic, edgy...
I present to you.... the lights of the future E-Class!!!
