For MB design standards yes, especially the CLS which was a significant departure from what we usually expect from them. But in terms of the automotive industry as a whole I don't think they are all that innovative mainly because they like to play it safe most of the time.

They took a design risk with the CLS and it paid off. Same cannot be said for the R-class though.



I don't think that any one manufacturer is the leader. There are a number of company's who are the trendsetters.. but an outright leader I don't think is possible in today's dynamic market where customer tastes in terms of design are so varied.

as the W211 was an evolution of the W210

Interesting photos!
One can tell this one will be larger than the currant model (the rear doors are longer). It also will have the tact-on hood design like that of the all-new C-Class, also the C-Posts are slimmer giving the driver a better view of whats going on over him sholders. The tail lights look smaller than the currant model while the headlight design is impossible to make out at the moment. I still believe Huck nailed it with his impressions. Time will tell us.
