I'm probably one of the few that thinks despite the resemblences to a few Korean or Japanese cars, it's more of an evolution rearlights of the previous W210 E-class model, so in my opinion it's not a copy by Mercedes.
I wonder how many will see the resemblence now.

Head lights
Again it resembles but yet again it doesn't mean Mercedes copied.
As you can see there was a evolution of 4 headlights between the W210 old E-class and the W211 current E-class, more dynamic and edgy and yet remaining the 4 headlights. Same can be expected of the W212 new E-class.
Mercedes has gone back to more angular designs in the new generations whereas in the previous generations the cars were getting more rounder and rounder.
For example the new Mercedes C-class has gone back to more angular lights as well, so it's not more than logical that the E-class gets a more angular 4 headlights design.
I agree it resembles it to a Lexus but it will be eventually different because Mercedes uses eyebrows instead of chrome surrounds and the design is more angular.
The thing is, Mercedes shouldn't look like Hyundai or Lexus at all. They've managed to do that before, why couldn't they do it now? Huckfeldt's latest interpretations look more like Lexus/Hyundai than evolution from previous MB models. And like I said I hope they give up with the 4 light design just like with the CL which is now one of the most beautiful Benzes.

Thats true BUT only if MB didn't care too much about elegance and cared more about being original. This is what BMW bravely did & managed to stay at her fans heart. While MB is a little bit careful with their design moves lately since it has been attacked in many other aspects (Reliability for example). This is my analysis nothing else really.

Re: New 2009 E-Class (Spy Pics & Details).

Fact.

Huck has nailed some of the cars to a tee (SLK, C, S). Some a miss (Such as the ML, CLS). Obviously he has inside info to renderings of potential future models. I would guess that at this time the E has been finalized and the test cars we see in disquise are nearly 90%.

I'm not crazy about what I see. Not because of similarities to Lexus or Hyundai, but because they lack vision. they seem contrived. Now, these CGIs could be of the final model or a potential model that was scrapped, or Huck's best guess. Who knows.

the E needs a fresh start. Let go of the 4 headlight thing and take a bold step with the E. The 210 was a much needed kick in the pants for MB, but it is time to move ahead.

Re: New 2009 E-Class (Spy Pics & Details).

another important factor
granted you can see a semblance of rogreesion between W210-211-212, but when your copiers have emulated the basic design elements throughout their low ranges you do not vindicate them by doing somthing similar and conitnuously evolving the same shape

bold moves are needded not just restylings

anyway anybody said eyebrows

Ermmm..It is actually the opposite. Lexus, Hyundai and the other copy cat manufacturers in Asia have used Mercedes cars as inspirations for ages. That inevitably results in future MB cars resembling Lexus and Hyundai cars which have been inspired by previous Benzes.

Take the W140 as an example, which is one of the most iconic Benzes out there. I can find countless pictures of cars which have the same head lights.

Re: New 2009 E-Class (Spy Pics & Details).

There are some rather interesting posts here!
I just might be one of the few (perhaps the only one) who really likes this ps!
I hope the next E possesses this new Razr-edge appearence. I like the creases in the body work. (this design will look good in many colors!) The hard-edged headlights that blend with the new overlapping hood (This gives the design a powerful, masculine look. (The currant E is rather feminine looking imo.) and other new MB design features too numerous to mention.

This design is clearly more dynamic looking than the currant model yet still manages to look classy and elegant. I believe this is the next E! This design is a winner in my book!

If the new E-Class looks like this it would be the hottest 4 door out!

Re: New 2009 E-Class (Spy Pics & Details).

Looks promising. I'm hoping that the car's beltline and greenhouse end up a bit different than the C and S-Klasse. I'd like to see less chunk and a more finesse – like we've seen with the CLS.

No, actually the real "thing" is that Mercedes shouldn't have to change their natural path because of copycats like Lexus or Hyundai. People who know cars know the real thing from the fake. I don't like the look of the next E in these drawings either, the front end in particular, but lets not go overboard here. We all know who the originator of the look is, Mercedes-Benz.
