Pininfarina Hyperion Based on Rolls Royce DropHead Coupe
Italian design house Pininfarina has revealed a teaser sketch of an all new project built for an unnamed private collector that will be unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours classic car show in Monterey, California, this August. The project, named “Pininfarina Hyperion”, is a convertible model based on the Rolls Royce Drophead Coupè. According to Pininfarina, the Hyperion’s design will pay homage to the great pre war cars. This isn't the first time that Pininfarina has built a one off special model. As many might remember, last year the Italian design house created the Ferrari P4/5 based on the Enzo for private car collector James Glickenhaus.

Even prior to Pininfarina CEO Andrea Pininfarina's untimely death while out riding his scooter, the market for coachbuilt automobiles was shrinking fast. To wit, the Italian car design firm had recently just managed to sign an agreement with its creditors to reschedule the company's debt and is now asking for an extra one-hundred-million Euros from shareholders for future product development. Pininfarina is also planning on designing and building its own electric car using batteries and technology supplied by a French company known as The Bolloré Group. Currently, many questions surround the storied Italian marque. As of today, for instance, Pininfarina is without a leader as the company has yet to announce its next CEO, despite the fact that it is knee-deep in a turnaround plan to bring the company back to profitability. Can the storied design firm and coach-building company survive these tumultuous times without a leader? Time, as always, will tell. - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER | | | | | Contributor

Update: Official rendering for Pininfarina-designed ‘Hyperion’ Rolls Royce? - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER Updated: Just days out from this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California comes a new rendering - purported to be an official image - of the ‘Hyperion’ Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe that’s set to star at the show. While there’s no official confirmation yet that this is an official rendering, the image does share a striking resemblance to a previous teaser released by Pininfarina shown after the jump.
Joining the Hyperion this weekend will be Bugatti’s new Grand Sport Veyron Roadster as well as Pininfarina’s previous Sintesi fuel-cell concept, which should ensure that this year’s Pebble Beach event is one of the most exciting on the Concours d’Elegance calendar. Original: Pininfarina has released a teaser for a new coach built luxury coupe based on the Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe currently being developed for an unnamed private collector. The new model is the Italian design firm’s first custom coach built exotic since 2006’s Ferrari Enzo-based P4/5 supercar designed and built for James Glickenhaus.
The design brief for the latest model was to create a vehicle that pays homage to the great pre-war Rolls-Royce cars, and its expected completion date is to coincide with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California, this August.
The new car will be called the Hyperion – the name of a mythological Greek titan – and it will also be on show at the Paris Motor Show in October alongside a new concept for Pininfarina’s future electric car, reports Automotive News.
The standard Drophead coupe features a 6.75L V12 engine developing a peak output of 453hp (338kW) and 531lb-ft (720Nm) of torque, which is enough for an electronically limited top speed of 155mph and a 0-60mph sprint of just 5.6 seconds. - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER | | | | | The Following 4 Users Say Thank You to Bartek Sikorski For This Useful Post: | | | Contributor

I absolutely love the front, but the side profile is goofy at best. The rear, hmmmm..I dunno.
Maybe RR should produce something like this a large 2-seat, long-body speedster, it would really unique, but it has to be better looking from the side and back.

I like that it really does look like a new model ...not just a DHC with some cosmetic changes.
I guess it is best not to ask about prices | | | | | Trendsetter

M | I see what you mean ...but it is far more expressive than the standard models -- and I like that.
It reminds me of some Pininfarina designs from the past. | | | | | Expert

It looks like coach building is slowly making a comeback: Edmiston, a luxury yacht brokerage and sales company has joined forces with Land Rover to create a program that will see top yacht designers crafting one-off-a-kind Range Rovers inspired from the world of luxury yachts. The two companies will kick off the program with the “Superyacht Range Rover Design Competition” in which seven top yacht designers took part, including Bannenberg, Tim Heywood, Andrew Winch, Terrence Disdale, Ken Freivokh, Redman Whiteley Dixon and Martin Francis.
The winning design will be unveiled during the Monaco Yacht Show in late September. Edmiston states that visitors to the show will be able to place their orders for any of the exclusive Range Rover designs that even include a two-door cabriolet version. Delivery time will be between three and six months with prices ranging from €200,000 to € 800,000.

It looks like a hybrid between RR Drophead & the new E89 BMW Z4. | | | | |
