Cooper S: 1.6 Turbo (instead of compressor like last) with 175 hp

Both engines are brand new and developed with PSA rather than Chrysler, and have roughly 5 hp more than the previous model (yay?)


I disagree man. I really think this new version looks better than the last. Though very similar, it's just more modern and worked out.

The exterior looks the same as before and the interior looks worse than before.

The air vent in particular is behind the steering wheel!!! I wonder who had that brilliant idea. The huge speedo is also hideous.

No diesel engine

Mini is iconic - and its only Mk2 of new MINI - so do not expect radical changes. Also the demand for the MINI as it is is still way over the supply / production - so it makes sense to produce almost identical design.

Interior: it is much better fit & finish + better materials + more space: so it is much better than current one. Live comparison is needed to feel that.


Mini One & Mini One D are coming soon - but not at launch. There is also an idea to offer Mini Cooper D.

Initially, Rover wanted to do an cheapo econobox replacement, but BMW and John Cooper wanted a sporty car, reminiscent of the old iconic/sporty/special versions. The exterior design was influenced by Issigonis own schetches.
And like all the previous replacents that were never put into production, the car is bigger.

And BTW the legend became a legend because of those special Cooper/S models, however the Mini was never intended to be an icon or a race car, it just ended up by accident.

If BMW would have made it like the old one, it should have something like a Daewoo Matiz, and build it in China or India.

Yeah. I remember the new MINI design proposals by Rover (before BMW had intervened) - it could indeed come out in a something-like Daewoo Matiz form. Thanks God BMW came along. What a disaster could have Rover done with MINI!
