MINI Traveller Concept Gets Production Greenlight
Earlier this week at the North American International Auto Show, Dr. Michael Ganal, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Sales and Marketing, confirmed that MINI will expand its current model lineup.
The new model will be based on the MINI Concept Detroit, which featured an array of lifestyle accessories for the "experience-oriented and active" MINI customer. At this point it's unknown which of the functional accessories will find their way into production, but it appears quite obvious that the new model will be a long-wheelbase wagon like the Detroit Concept and other iterations shown last year in Frankfurt and Tokyo.
Dr. Ganal indicated that a production model very similar to the concept car would be available in about three years. The timing will likely coincide with a styling update across the MINI line, elements of which can be seen on the concept- new grille, hood, and headlamps as well as a totally redesigned dashboard.
