Re: Autos that could be sculptures in a museum

I forgot about this thread, I find some of these old cars to be quite inspirational in terms of their design.

This is one of my favourite old cars ever. It is like a cubist sculpture. It is almost crazy-looking -- I love it!

Needless to say, it is worth a few million dollars.

I've posted this one before, but it is so spectacular, I think it is worth doing again

Thanks for bringing it up again (Phantom), Rob. Just look at those seats, door, interior, details on the body. It is a real pearl, I think no car today matches it by any means.

Bugatti Type 57 C Vanvooren Cabriolet

The Shah's Type 57 C Vanvooren Cabriolet
Featured is a unique Vanvooren bodied Type 57 C. It was ordered by the French government as a special wedding gift for the later Shah of Persia, Prince Reza Pahlavia. It represents the finest France had to offer for one of the greatest car enthusiasts of the day. Vanvooren designed a very elegant body, inspired by Figoni et Falaschi's finest work. One of the body's most ingenious features is the front windshield which can be lowered into the cowl and moved under the dashboard.

Twenty years after it was constructed, the Bugatti left the Shah's collection for a sum of just $275 US. After its arrival in North America it suffered from a careless owner and was fitted with a V8 engine. A careful restoration by Rod Jolley of Lymington, Great Britain with the help of Louis Giron, a former Bugatti employee, returned the car to its original shape.

Currently owned by the Petersen Museum, this unique royal vehicle is seen here at the 2004 Meadowbrook Hall Concours d'Elegance.

The Aston Martin DB-5

And one of my personal favorite cars of all time, of course, with the wire knock-off rims that make it look so much better, and then more angles without. I wish I coulda found a picture of the car with side pipes and wire wheels:
